How to split 4 nights in Trapani and Favignana

I wish we could already leave on our vacation so I do not have time to ponder tweaks to our summer vacation :)

We are reserved for four nights in Trapani before heading to Palermo for three nights (we will be arriving in Trapani by car at around three in the afternoon) as part of our twenty-one night Calabria/Sicily vacation in June/July.

We do want some time to see Trapani's old town and to visit Erice, but we are now considering spending some or all of the nights in Favignana as the island looks wonderful and relaxing and would also give us time to visit Levanzo. We could also use the ferry to come back to Trapani if we have to.

- How much time should we allocate to Trapani?
- How would you split the time between Trapani and Favignana?

Thank you.

Favignana has better beaches.
Trapani is the better base for the visit of Erice, Segesta, San Vito lo Capo, Selinunte.
All Levanzo bound ferries originate at Trapani and stop at Favignana.

I just checked and there are 10 minute direct ferries that run between Favignana and Levanzo, which would make visiting the island easy.

The options that are available to us (all involve visiting Erice for a few hours on our drive back to Palermo from Trapani) are:

1. Staying in Trapani the first night (arriving in Trapani at around 3-4 in the afternoon) then ferrying to Favignana the next morning for three nights. This would give us a few hours to walk Trapani's old town in the late afternoon and evening and have dinner there and then we would have almost three full days in Favignana as we would take an early ferry from Trapani

2. Staying in Favignana for the four nights (arriving in Favignana at around 5-6 in the afternoon) and taking a day trip to Trapani by ferry (about a 30 minute ferry ride). This would give us a little more time to see Trapani but reduce our time in Favignana to about two days.

Which would you choose?

Thanks

I found Favignana extremely boring, but I was there before the season really began, plus I'm not a beach person. It really depends on what you are looking for. If you just want a rest, go to the island, otherwise stay in Trapani. Or Erice, I thought Erice was worth at least one night.

This is from a while back, but should give you some idea. Start here for Erice, Favignana and Trapani: https://www.fodors.com/community/eur...3/#post4987732

We will be landing in Naples then driving and staying in Tropea, Ortigia, Noto/Ragusa, Trapani/Favignana and Palermo during our road trip so staying a few nights on the beautiful island of Favignana does sound wonderful.

We do like the beach so with all of the other towns we will be visiting and staying in, I guess my question comes down to how much time we would need in Trapani, or should we forget Trapani altogether and spend the fourth night in Erice on our drive back to Palermo?

Thanks for your help.

Well, I enjoyed both Trapani and Erice, but I do think Erice deserves an overnight rather than a day trip. Especially as the day trippers are probably more numerous now than they were in 2008.

We are going to do just that.

Three nights in Favignana, stopping in Trapani for a few hours and dinner before ferrying it over to the island, spending two days and two nights in Favignana, then staying one night in Erice on our drive to Palermo.

This will also give us a little more time in Palermo as we will arrive there a little earlier.

Thanks. Now I'm happy.
