We probably would have to choose between Matisse and Chagall due to our limited time: seems like the latter may be the better choice?

Like previously mentioned, we are considering a full day in Nice, and then a half day BsM and SJCF, but then no Picasso!!!!!

I think we have replaced Nice Greeters with the food tour, but we'll probably change that a couple of times over the next few months.

It's actually great to have too many choices than the other way around.

Your choice of Matisse vs. Chagall may come down to preference. Chagall's Museum, from an art perspective, is a bit more significant with a series of 17 Biblical, large scale works in a linked series in a building he basically specified. The Matisse lacks the great works but focuses on his life and the evolution of his art with works and interviews, etc. These are not large museums and are located close by each other.

The normal cautions regarding trains, buses and stations apply in Nice as elsewhere. I've never had a problem, unlike in Florence or Venice, where you must keep a tight hold of everything in those same locations.

Cimiez itself is great for its views over the coast, Roman ruins and neat untouristy neighborhoods:

So even if you go to one or both museums spend some time lurking around Cimiez! Buses from Nice.

Thanks Gooster and PalenQ, I think DW may go with Chagal. I'll spend some time doing the ruins, most probably! And thanks for the link as well.
