How to search for tickets with a layover in a specific city (Tampa to UK want a layover in Paris on the way home)
 

My title pretty much sums it up. Is there a trick finding something with a layover somewhere? I've seen many posts with people asking about layovers in places where they have enough time to take a quick tour of the city.

We were going to take a cruise when the kids get out of school this year, but my travel partner is not able to make the trip, and I'm not too enthusiastic about a cruise, so I'm looking for alternatives.

We can stay with family and friends in Keighley (West Yorkshire) so that's our best bet, money wise. The had a blast when we went a couple of years ago, and would like to go back.

I'm limited to what we would have spent on the cruise, so Keighley will likely be our destination, BUT...I'd like to try to work it so that we can have a layover, say in Paris, so that we can at least leave the airport quick and the kids can see the Eiffel Tower.

Am I asking for too much?!?! I won't be surprised if I am. If not, how should I try to search for these tickets? I've thought about multi-city tickets, but I'm not sure I can sqeeze enough $$ out of my budget to stay over one night in a destination.

So...any thoughts?

It's very simple -

Go to any major airline or travel agency website (Travelocity, Orbitz etc.) and select the "multiple cities" or "multiple destinations" box in the air search fields (they have different names.) Then put in TPA-LON (or MAN, whatever) in the first flight box, then LON-PAR in the second (if you're flying) then PAR-TPA in the second or third, whichever is available. It's either a "multi-stop" trip or an "open jaw" trip - to London, from Paris - and they're done all the time. Piece of cake.

I understand what you are looking for because I've researched something similar. From what I understand, you are looking for simply a layover city that would give you enough time to maybe see some sights before catching your next flight, correct?

Unfortunately its not always easy. The problem is usually with codeshares. For instance, if you take a British Airways flight to, say, Paris you will most likely lay over in London. If you take a Northwest flight, you will probably lay over in Amsterdam. You may not always have a choice in the matter unless you buy two separate tickets. The best thing to do is get on a website like, say, Travelocity or even aa.com (or whomever your preferred carrier is) and put in your itinerary and see what layover options come up.

I'd do what Gardyloo and ira suggest - making Paris an actual stop -- not just a layover between flights on the same day.

You can get a decent yet budget hotel for a day to 2 in Paris. W/ 1 or 2 full days in Paris you can see quite a lot.
