How to map an itinerary?

Do you how a web site (or software – preferably free, but for a fee ok, too) where I can input an itinerary (from point A to B to C to D, etc) and get a road map of it? With info on distances better than without ….

I know I’ve seen such maps on various personal travel-related web sites, but I have no idea how to get one.
Thanks a lot

Which country?

mappy.com does many

I like Mapquest the best. Print out each section of the itinerary. Michelin and mappy do much the same thing. I guess I like the way Mapquest "reads" the best.

I use both mappy and viamichelin, with mappy my first choice. One of the things I like about mappy is that you can put in the names of several places you want to visit ("vias") and tell mappy to route them in optimized order, to result in the shortest route between them all.

Mappy also lets you map pedestrian routes. I use that to determine the best walking route to a restaurant from my hotel, for example.

I'm with Mary Fran, I like ViaMichelin, com They show you the route tell you which turns to make and then give you the time it will take and the approximate cost in gasoline expendature and tolls.

Yes, AisleSeat, the toll stuff in ViaMichelin, especially, is neat. I plugged in our departure from the Copenhagen airport and the end point in Arhus and discovered there was a 26.80 euro toll on the bbridge between the two. EEEEK! That would have been a lovely surprize.

I thought ViaMichelin was also very smart, when I plugged in Arhus as a start point, Helsingør as an endpoint, with a "via" of Sjællands Odde, which I knew was across the water, and ViaMichelin showed that I would cross by ferry from the ferry launch it found. I was pretty amazed. However, it did not tell me the cost of the 60-minute high-speed ferry ride.

Thank you all, I had no idea there were so many options out there :)
I need this for planning a future trip to Ireland. Thanks again

I love MSAutoroute. You can save your maps/itineraries. You can also plot restaurants (not already included), shops, whatever. I add things (additional bus routes, etc.) from one trip to the next. Then, before leaving home, print out various neighborhoods.

This may be a crazy question, but I'm usually not so bad with tech-y things and can't seem to make this work! I checked out www.mappy.com at the suggestion of many, and can't seem to find a drop-down country selection for Ireland. I tried using United Kingdom but only get locations in Britain. Can someone fill me in on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Don't use the drop-down section; just enter Ireland in the country box.

caseyhen Apr 15th, 2006 08:44 AM

Thanks - I just tried that and it wouldn't let me type in a country ... but lo and behold, Eire is a selection, and that's the one I needed! Duh...

caseyhen,
I had the same problem, thanks for asking the question. Love the site!

Go to "routes," then click on "itinerary in Europe."

I use Microsoft MapPoint for Europe. If you want to email or post your itinerary, I can map it and send it to you or post it.
