How to make free collect calls to US from Paris?
I am planning a trip to Paris in March. My bank says they don't have a branch in Paris so I'd have to call the US 800 number if I have issues w/ using their ATM card in Paris. They also gave me an international number that would accept collect calls.
How do I make collect calls to the US in Paris? Do I dial 0 to get to the operator and ask for collect? Is there any toll-free AT&T service in Paris that I can use to call collect? How about public payphone service? Can I use payphone service to dial collect calls to US? Thanks. |
You will not be able to call from Paris to US 1-800 toll free number - I learned this the hard way! That is why the bank gives you a regular phone number to call collect. Just use any phone call the operator and tell them you want to call collect. If you need an English speaking operator you can use AT&T - they usually have ads all over the inflight magazines with the toll free number to use in various European countries.

You can't call 800 numbers from France.
Why do you think you'd need to call them? |
i have this from one of my guides
To reach AT & T for long distance to the US, dial 00, wait for a tone, dial 0011, and an English-speaking operator will come on. |
You can search the web for "International collect calls".
800Call4Less and AT&T are the main two providers for making collect calls from Europe back to the USA or Canada. 00800-22554537 is available from most of Western Europe or you can view the AT&T website for their tollfree numbers in each country. |
