How to keep your valuables safe during airline security search?

Jump to last reply

There's a bit of this conversation going on at a different thread about the stolen ring in Madrid.

How do you protect your things when you must leave them at security for the scan or pat down?

I have no brilliant system but make sure i do not have a belt to hassle with, have slip off shoes, always have everything inside my purse so no coins, phone, etc. in any dish/bin. I then wait to put my carry-on and then my bin through the machine until I am just about to walk through the detector. Since in Spain they pat down as you exit the detector my bin has usually not gotten too far ahead so it is still in good view.

Any other ideas?
