How to get to Vevey (near Lausanne)

I am trying to get to Vevey in Switzerland (it's near Lausanne which is near Geneva) from the USA (El Paso) leaving around May 8 or 9 and returning May 14 or 15. I am also trying to not spend a fortune to do this.

I have searched flights to Geneva (kinda pricey) What are my other options?

?fly to Zurich and take a train? How long would the train take?
?fly to Paris and take a train? Again how long would the train take?
?fly to ???? and take a train?

Any logistical advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi eveningcrane,

You can research all the train possibilities (including from Paris) at www.rail.ch.

Usually it's easiest to fly into Zurich. There's a train station in the basement of the airport.

If you were to fly to Paris, you could take a TGV to Geneve and a regional train to Vevey (5 hours total) or a TGV to Lausanne and a regional train to Vevey (4hours total). However, in either case yo would have to add on another hour to get from CDG to Gare de Lyon (central Paris) from where the TGV departs.

If you choose to fly into Paris, depending upon your arrival time at CDG you could take a TGV to Geneve and a regional train to Vevey (5 hours total) or a TGV to Lausanne and a regional train to Vevey (4 hours total). However, in either case you would have to add on another hour to get from CDG to Gare de Lyon (central Paris) from where the TGV departs. See the timetables at www.bahn.de. Click on "Internat. I am flying in November from Zurich directly to Dallas, non-stop on American. It was the cheapest flight. We live in Lausanne and will take the train to Zurich (an hour and a half or so). Vevey is a 10 minute train ride to Lausanne so I would consider flying into Zurich.

A local train from Geneva is the best bet. It's about 30 minutes.

Sorry but no to the 30 minutes, the absolute quickest train trip between Geneva and Vevey is 57 minutes.

We flew into Zurich (cheaper flight to Switzerland than flying into Geneva for us, for who knows what reason), and took train to Lausanne - 2 1/2 hours.

Definitely the best is to fly into Geneva and take the train to Vevey.
