Judy:

There is direct train service from the airport which is fast, frequent and reasonably priced. The service lets yuou off in the main railroad station in the center of town. From that location you have excellent public transportation service to anywhere in the city. Alternatively, there is an abundance of taxis available for hire.

Hope this helps

Larry

We just got back from Italy and to get from the airport to downtown Rome we just took a taxi. It was quite easy. I wasn't sure if you were renting a car - so if you're looking for directions - I'm afraid I'm not much help. As for where to stay - there are so many nice hotels, I couldn't begin to list them. Rome is such a walkable city..... We stayed at the Marriott Flora which was really nice (we used Marriott points). They have completely redone it and it was a perfect location for us. We were a 6 minute walk to the Spanish steps and alot of the beautiful downtown Rome sites. I really liked our location because there were a ton of outdoor cafes, restaurants, etc. Personally, I probably wouldn't stay near the Coliseum because it is a bit out from the rest of downtown and I really like to walk around at night - but, the subway station is right there and you could hop right on. We loved Rome - unfortunately we were only there about 2 1/2 days (at the beginning of a cruise) - and we definitely want to go back!!

Judy:

We just returned from a trip to Italy last week. After a 9 hour flight, we opted not to wait around for the train. We took a taxi from the airport to our hotel and it was very easy. We stayed at the St. Regis Grand Hotel and the taxi charged approximately $35.00 US for my husband and me, plus two suitcases. The journey was only about 35-40 minutes. We loved the hotel and its location. If you visit the Sheraton website, you should be able to find rates and availability information.

Karen

Judy;
We had our hotel get us a taxi when we got to Rome. He was waiting for us with a sign at the airport. Because he had to wait for us, it cost alittle more, but it was well worth it. (100,000L/cab. There were 8 of us and we stayed at the Hotel Pensione Italia)

TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM AIRPORT
Termini Train station: Catch the Termini line, an air-conditioned express train (every hr.) from Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) airport for 30-min. ride (20,000L pp) to the Termini train station. Hrs.: 7:30am-9pm. Simply follow the signs to your left for Stazione FS/Railway Station also labeled “Treno.” Right after you walk through customs, when you leave the arrivals building, you’ll see the train station about 40 feet in front of you across the street and up the ramp. If you plan to take the train back to the airport, purchase all your tickets at the same time. It will save you a lot of time when you get ready to leave Rome. Also, pick up a train schedule when you purchase your train ticket. Trains run from Termini to the airport every half-hour from track #22. Hrs.: 6:50am-9:15pm. (Check the large boards with the current train schedules posted high on walls of either side of tracks for current train info.) Tiburtina train station: Catch the Tiburtina-Orte-Farasabina line, an air-conditioned metro train (every 20 min.) from the airport to Tiburtina train station (not Termini). The trip takes about 45 min. (8,000L pp) and makes about six stops before Tiburtina. Hrs.: 6am-10pm. You can catch a metro or a bus from Tiburtina train station to Termini. Then a bus, metro or a taxi from Termini to your hotel. Look under the individual hotels for more transportation details. Taxi: Airport to center (45 min.) is approximately 90,000L including luggage.
Airport Shuttle: [email protected] Tel: 06-42014507. Fax: 06-42014511.
http://www.HelloEurope.com
