How to get to Muiderslot castle from A'dam

We will be going to Amsterdam in June and we'd like to see a castle . Muiderslot is 8 miles east of A'dam in the town of Muiden, but Frommers only tells how to get there by car. Is there any way by public transport? Could we hire a taxi? Kerry

We went to Muiderslot in 1998, twice...the first time it was closed so we went back a few days later. It was a pretty neat castle, with a moat around it. The tour was in Dutch, but they did have a handout in English so you have an idea of what you are looking at. The little town of Muiden is quite lovely.

We took public transportation both times from Centraal Station. The first time we got off at Narden-Busson and took bus #136 to Muiden. The second time we got off at Amsterdam Amstel and took the #136 again to Muiden. (We entered the town from both directions). We found that the ride from Amsterdam Amstel was a little bit quicker. It was fun taking the bus and chatting with the locals.

Hope you enjoy your time in Amsterdam and Muiden as much as we did. Have a safe journey. Peace.

Hi Robyn, Thanks so much for the info. One question, how far away is A'dam Amstel station from A'dam Central?

kerryccu -

It takes 7 minutes to get from Amsterdam Centraal to Amsterdam Amstel. You can check out train schedules at:

www.ns.nl

The English translation button is in the middle of the page, just left of the Snelplanner. Peace.

Easier and quicker to take a metro to Amstel (all lines)

Bus 136 is not a GVB line but a connexxion one, so best to check the connexxion website on times.
