How to get to Montenegro fromt he US

I am trying to meet some friends who are traveling from Europe to Montenegro. Any suggestions or ideas about flights from the US to Montenegro? I have read that it it is cheaper to fly to Dubrovnik and drive to Montenegro but am unsure if this would more difficult to do. Any suggestions would be helpful!

I am asssuming you are heading to the coast and/or Kotor Bay area, in which case Dubrovnik or Tivat are equally convenient.
If you have the travel time and inclination to research european low cost carriers, you may want to fly into a major city such as London or Frankfurt, and try to get a cheaper flight to Tivat or Dubrovnik.
This often requires a time-consuming change of airports, so plan accordingly!
You don't say where in the US either, or what time of year, but I can tell you it is not cheap to get to this region (about 1000) and can take 2-3 layovers. I have used travel agents and this year I used www.croatiatravel.com.
They often have specials.

I looked into this earlier this year. There are flights on BA from London to Podgorica but they often require an overnight in London due to the timing of the flights. Otherwise you could fly into another gateway city in Europe and look into low cost carriers that fly directly into Montenegro.

I would assume that it would be easier to fly into Dubrovnik and just drive or take a bus. We were in Dubrovnik and Montenegro last year and driving was surprisingly easy. Dubrovnik's airport is south of the city, closer to Montenegro, so you could easily fly into Dubrovnik and drive to, say, Kotor in under 2 hours.
