How to get to Florence from Rome
 

My wife and I are staying in rome for 5 days. We are thinkin of going to florence. What would be our options of getting there from rome?

We did a five day trip to Rome & Florence for our 20th anniversary two years ago. We flew into Rome, took a train from the airport to the main train station then connected to Florence. (then took a cab to our hotel). Did the reverse back to Rome and it worked out great. The trains run quite frequently so I think this is your best bet.

You can buy your tickets at the Termini Station or at designated travel agencies including the AMEX office by the Spanish Stairs. Getting to Florence from Rome by train is quite easy.

If you're just going from Rome to Florence grab a train - fast and easy.

If you want to see any of the small towns of Umbria/Tuscany in between you're better off renting a car - so you're not stuck waiting for public transit - and can adjust plans as you go.

There is at least one Eurostar train each hour (ofter 2 or more) going from Rome to Florence. Trip time is less than 1hour and 40mins. The choice is a no-brainer to me: take the train.

We are going to do exactly that, question, we have two rolling suitcases 23 inches. Is it able to keep an eye on them if we have to leave them in the rack at the begining of the wagon. Would traveling in first improve the luggage situation or would it be the same ? We are taking an EuroStar.

The ES* between Rome and Florence is a nonstop.

Once the train gets underway you don't have to watch your luggage until it stops.
