What is the best way to get from naples to sorrento?

Hydrofoil from the harbours of Molo Beverello or Mergellina or train named Circumvesuviana. Time by hydrofoil 30', time by train 55'.<BR>Have a nice trip.<BR>

It is simple to take the train. We did it and it was a quick trip....

We took both the jet boat from Naples and used the Circumvesuviana several times. <BR><BR>The jet boat is very fast, efficient and comfortable. You need to arrive a bit early, buy tickets and wait at the appropriate dock. The ferries do not run as often as the train, and there can be delays. The fare is cheap but nevertheless several times the cost of the train.<BR><BR>The train is simple, frequent and usually on time. (Occasionally there is a wait on the tracks because trains in each direction have to be coordinated in order to share a single track in spots.) Make sure you get on the correct train (look for sign in front window of first car) -- there are departures to other points from the same platforms. My only negative comments: The Naples train station is the pits. Don't expect clean restrooms even at the McDonald's in the station. And there are 35 stops between Naples and Sorrento. You begin to think you're never going to arrive.

The circumvesiviana has a number of express trains throughout the day that bybass a number of stations. This cuts down the time considerably. Be VERY careful in Naples, it is rife with pickpockets. Pay particular attention to female gypsies with infants.

If you use the train to Sorrento, do not, I repeat, do not let anyone help you with your bags!!! They pretend to be porters or work for the railroad and help you get to the train. Then they will try to stiff you for 20 Euro!!! So don't fall for it.<BR><BR>Also, wear a money belt under your clothing with all credit card, passports etc. We met about 3 different people(men) in Sorrento who had their wallets lifted on this train.<BR><BR>Otherwise, have fun and a great trip!!<BR>
