The AC road makes me barf. The SITA bus makes me barf squared. I opt for the ferry. The scenery is gorgeous and if you get motion sick, you will get a break.
Ferry from Naples or Sorrento, to Positano.

When ? If it's running when you get there (it doesn't always start on the scheduled date, which in the years I tried to use it was mid June) the Metro del Mare hydrofoil from Beverello to Positano is easiest, quickest & most pleasant - www.metrodelmare.net. There still seems to be a question mark over whether it will run at all this year, though.

For the latest on the MdM, try...

And, for details of the only service I've seen running between Sorrento and Positano so far this year, use the link titled "Scarica gli orari in PDF" here..

From the airport you can take the Alibus which has two stops only: Stazione Centrale (Central station) and Piazza Municipio, near the main ferry port (molo Beverello). Buses run every 20 minutes.

Hi A,
You could train to Salerno.
The ferry docks are about 3 blks from the train station.
Take the ferry to Positano.
Nice scenery and less crowded than the Circumvesuviana/SITA route.
For Ferry schedules Positano – Amalfi - Salerno (P.zza della Concordia):
