How to get from Italy to Dubrovnik?

I have checked airlines and it comes up with 1 way is about $250 and takes about 9 hours to go from Rome to Dubrovnik. Interested in seeing if it is at all feasible to visit Dubrovnik on my trip to Italy. Haven't checked train but would like any suggestions. I am not locked in to fly or go out of Rome.

Thanks for any help.

That cannot be a direct flight - it can be 9 hours only since you are stopping somewhere in between. Train is not an option - will take more than 40 options with 4 or 5 changes.

It appears there are no non-stop flights - only those with stops - which can take forever.

From Venice it looks like driving would take at least 12 hours - plus stops. And I'm sure there's some sort of ferry - but also a lengthy trip.

Yes, you can visit - but you need to allow 4 or 5 days to get there, see anything and get back.

I thought this is wacko, but in fact, it is even worse than you suggest -- multiple stops and connections seem to be the rule, and mid-June prices are all over $400.

If you are not up for the ferry (I love ferries) I have two suggestions:

1 reorder your trip rather than book separately from Rome. For example, Home to Munich to DBV to Munich to Rome to home

2 find a cheap tour and use only the parts you want, skipping the ground bus trips. You couldn't do it for $250 pp, But for transportation, air, and hotel you might might spend less than $400+ground.

In summer easyjet flies Rome to Dubrovni for around €50 in about an hour. We did it a few years ago (and returned from Split to Rome) for €14 each way. I just checked their site and it says that route will be available after July 6 this year.

That is more like what I expected, isabel.

Thank you all for great info. Unfortunately I didn't add that I want to go in early May so regretfully, easyjet will not work which is too bad. I have been checking the ferry from Bari but it keeps telling me this route cannot be currently booked on line. Really wished easyjet flew there during May. I prefer to fly out of Dubrovnik or Split to the Netherlands or Dusseldorf, but it doesn't look like I am going to be able to see Dubrovnik on my trip, which is unfortunate as I doubt I will ever have a chance again.

Thanks again for all your help!

I just found an older post of someone who was having the same problem I have had with the Bari ferry to Dubrovnik and he posted he found a Anacona ferry to Split and then ferried from there to Dubrovnik which would work for me.

So my question now is how to fly out of Dubrovnik to the Netherlands or Dusseldorf, or a smaller airport is great if possible.

Hope I get some more great ideas/help.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You'll probably need to take the bus from Split to Dubrovnik - I don't think there is any ferry in May?

I'd persist with the Bari-Dubrovnik crossing. Is it the www.jadrolinija.hr website that is giving you trouble?

Finally it looks like there are flights for under $200 but you have to fly on certain days. Check out Vueling airlines - I'll be in Dubrovnik in May and I am flying to Barcelona on Vueling cheaply, but they only have two departures a week. You'll need to stop in Barcelona. I only checked flights to Amsterdam. Croatia Airlines will get you there, but through Zagreb.

Bari - Dubrovnik ferries can be booked with agencies like
http://www.aferry.com/
http://www.directferries.co.uk
http://www.traghettiweb.it/traghetti/jadrolinija.htm

http://www.ryanair.com flies every Monday and Friday in May from Zadar to Weeze (Germany, close to the Dutch border). Fares start at 50 EUR with 1 piece of checked in luggage.
The bus ride from Dubrovnik to Zadar takes about 7 hrs (many buses with change at Split), but it is highly recommended to stop over along the itinerary, namely at Split, Trogir, Sibenik (Krka National Park).

http://www.germanwings.com flies every Sunday and Thursday in May from Dubrovnik to Cologne. Fares around 100 EUR.

You may also fly with http://www.easyjet.com from Dubrovnik to Stansted ar 12.25 (about 80 EUR) and then with easyjet or ryanair (many afternoon departures) to Eindhoven or Amsterdam(about 50 EUR).

Great help. Thank you all!

Rialtogrl: I just tried the ferry website you posted and they do have sailings but I can't seem to get a price. (perhaps I am not doing it right)

neckervd: I have checked the airlines but I still am hoping I can find one that might go out of Dubrovnik. Still need to check the ferry websites. I am a little concerned about changing buses, but not ruling it out.
