How to get from Ireland to Scotland??
Husband and I are visiting Ireland for two weeks and are considering going to Scotland for part of the trip. What's the best/cheapest/most time efficient way to get there? Thanks!

Aside from the fact that you could easily spend the entire two weeks in Ireland OR Scotland, the most time-efficient thing to do is to fly. Otherwise you could take a ferry from Dublin to Holyhead (Wales) and drive or take the train from there. Very time-consuming. Ireland and Scotland There's also a ferry from Belfast to Scotland, if you are planning to go to Northern Ireland.

The ferry from Larne (north of Belfast) to Troon takes less than 2 hours. As Northern Ireland is the best part of Ireland, I'd expect you'd be up near Larne anyway.

The Quickest really is flying. You can get a cheap ryanair gflight to Edinburgh and Aberdeen and Glasgow. The 2nd would be the ferry but that would entail driving or the train to belfasy which you could do slowly by driving and see some sights on the way.
Dublin to Holyhead and then drive is insane. Way too far to drive from wales to Scotland if you have limited time and exhausting. I think it's good to incorporate both into a trip. Both places are different and beautiful. |
There are three ferry operators from Belfast or Larne in Northern Ireland to Scotland: Stena Line (www.stenaline.co.uk), P&O (www.poirishsea.com) and Seacat (www.steam-packet.com). There are no ferries from the Irish Republic to Scotland.

Hello,
Needed to get from Ireland to Aberdeen Scotland last year. We flew on RyanAir from Dublin to Aberdeen for less than $15.00 U.S. There was only one flight a day (that was in early May) and we left Dublin around 7:30a.m. Nice, short flight and the Aberdeen Airport is great--with very helpful employees. |
Scheduled flights operate to Scotland from a bewildering number of Irish airports (especially given how few people actually live in the island).
Last time I checked, you could get at least to Glasgow from: Dublin Cork Shannon Knock Donegal Galway Derry Both Belfasts |
I thought the ferry from Larne, in Northern Ireland, when to Stranraer, in Scotland, is this not correct?
|
Larne to Cairnryan, Belfast to Stranraer, Larne to Troon.
