How to get from Greek Isles to Turkey

We are traveling to Greece next June, we will be there 6 days and the we will meet with some friends in Turkey, we want to go from Rodas, What is the easiest way ???to Bodrum or Kusadasi.....

The easiest (and fastest) connection from Rhodes is to Marmaris. Several hydrofoils departing every morning around 8am. 45 min trip.

We went from Rhodes to Marmaris in September 2000. Trip was easy, but we booked a day or 2 ahead with a Greek travel agent who booked our tickets. She needed our passport information as well. We paid the visa on board the hydrofoil - I think it was $45 USD. We're not from the US, but we made sure we had the right amount with us. We met some Aussies and they were trying to pay in Australian dollars - seemed to be more of a problem.

Susan: thankyou for the information, I think we will do the same. Do you remember the name of the ferrys company, did you just showed at the pier?
You may deal with any travel agency. The agency that is connected to hotel Plaza (at the time) provided for the best deal in town. We also had to leave passports the afternoon before the trip. Passeports were handed back when docking in Marmaris.

Hello,

The easiest way to get from Greece to Turkey is either Samos-Kusadasi or Rhodes-Marmaris. There are other ways but the Greeks don't like to give too much information on traveling to Turkey from Greece. I had real problems with this.

Fortunately, it's easy to get from Samos to Kusadasi. Boats leave daily in summer and the cost is about $30 one way. I believe the Rhodes-Marmaris line is not daily, but I'm not positive on this.

Please make sure you have the money for your visa to enter Turkey in US dollars. When we entered Turkey a year and a half ago we had to pay $45 in US cash only.

Enjoy your trip. Turkey is an amazing country!

PW

We took a hydrofoil from Rhodes to Marmaris in October 2000. Be aware that it can be difficult to book these ferries. We checked at three different travel agencies and were quoted very different prices at each one, and each one gave us different information about what days of the week and what time the ferries depart. Do some shopping around before you buy your ticket and check and double check the departure time!

Bring American $ if you come from a country where you need to buy a visa at the border. We paid an exorbitant fee to change Canadian travellers' cheques.

Why not buy your visa to Turkey by sending your passport with the money to the appropriate office while still in the US? We avoided a major line and people trying to get cash to do theirs when we arrived. Our passports already had the visa and it cost us the same amount of money doing it in advance.

To all of you that responded on this, I am wondering if you had a preference for the greek isles or the coastal towns in Turkey. Or did you find them similiar. I am debating on where to spend my time. I read good things about Bodrum but would like opinions. Thanks!

I first went to Greece in 1976 and always wanted to go back. We went back in September 2000 and I enjoyed the islands a lot, but I loved the Turkish coast. We spent just a week there, in Fethiye and Kalkan. Wonderful destination and we definitely intend to go back.

How long will you be staying in Turkey for? Will you be coming back to Greece before heading home? I went on a day hydrofoil trip to Mamaris from Rhodes in September 2ooo. The agent that we booked with itemized the trip for us and we paid in Greek Drachmas. We did not pay for a visa, perhaps because it was only a day trip? We were quoted the cost of the trip along with greek and turkish port and departure taxes. When we went through customs/immigration going into and leaving Turkey our passports were not stamped with anything indicating that we had even been to Turkey. We were given a piece of paper with our passport numbers on them which Turkish customs stamped and kept.

We just bought the hydrofoil tickets from the booth at the pier. Left our passports there the day before, and got them back with the tickets.

From Marmaris you can take a bus to Bodrum. And what can I say, which is better Greek islands or Turkish coast? They are different. I have been 6 (I think) times to Turkey and more than ten times to different Greek islands. I like both. But I didn´t particularly like Kusadasi, except for Ephesus, of course. Go to Bodrum, it is nicer.
