How to get from Chamonix to Paris

I think that I have just figured out something concerning. I don't think Easyjet will fly from Geneva to Paris after March.

Does anyone know if this is true? Silly me - I just thought they hadn't released tickets this far in advance (kind of like Southwest).

Now I've found myself booked in Chamonix until May 30 - and my plan to get back to Paris on Easyjet is not looking good.

Any other low-cost solutions to get from Chamonix to Paris on May 30? I'll be flying back home (California) from Paris on May 31.

Also, the Geneva airport site lists a flight on Air Europa to Paris, but I can't find it on the Air Europa site.

Thanks so much.

Trains run from nearby Saint-Gervais Fayette-les-Bains (sp?) the railhead for Chamonix to Paris in about 5-6 hours or less i'd say - there is also an overnight train or was as i took it a few years ago

the tiny train goes from Chamonix to Saint Gervais - since this is a narrow-gauge mountain train you have to change at St Gervais to normal gauge (wider tracks) regular SNCF (French railways) trains to Paris - probably involving a change somewhere nearby to a high-speed TGV

www.voyages-sncf.com for schedules, fares and online PREM fares - hugely discounted tickets sometimes available

I should also add that we will have a rental car to drop off. This all seemed so simple when I thought we could take Easyjet.

even better - drive your car to Geneva and drop it off there if want and hop TGV train to paris in about 3 hrs

or drive it to Annecy, Lyon or other towns with TGV service - drop it at the train station in many cases.

Or drive it to CDG airport or Paris

Why you don't think Easyjet will be flying any longer after March? I too should think the reservation is not open yet from the end of March.

Otherwise, low-cost GVA-PAR is TGV. 3.5 hrs and if reserved in advance, that can be 25€.

Thanks PalenQ. I'm checking out the TGV site right now.

Hi Kappa,
I have an email in to Easyjet to confirm (or hopefully deny) my concern.

This came about after looking at another poster's question about when to book flights for this summer.

I was preparing my response by saying that Easyjet hadn't released flights for this summer. Then I thought I should double check before I gave someone bad info. Sure enough other flights (Paris - Amsterdam) were open for May and beyond.

Then I saw some press releases about easyjet flights to/from Geneva axed for summer due to low demand.

I'm currently waiting for the TGV/rail europe site search function to come back online.

Thanks for the help.

Here is the response I received from easyjet:

Thank you for your email regarding your easyJet flight booking for next summer.

I regret that I cannot confirm routes for our summer schedule until the schedule has actually been released.

Generally speaking, new schedules are released two to three months before the end of the existing schedule. The exact date is dependent on confirmation of flight slots from the relevant air traffic control authorities. The next summer schedule (for flights from April to October) is currently being released in batches. It is hoped that all routes will be available by Christmas at the latest.

Now I'm starting to wonder if it would just be easier to take the train anyhow. After adding in the time needed to get to the airport early, check and pick up luggage and find a way into Paris from the airport, the travel times might be about a wash...

Depending on where you need to go in Paris, the train may be a faster way to get there than flying.
