Denfert-Rochereau has an elevator to street level, when it works.

I think 36 rue Mouffetard is too far to walk from the RER stop with luggage. I wouldn't do that, it's bout 600-700 meters on my map (which is not a couple blocks). Besides, it's hilly around that area, although not too bad going from Luxembourg to place Contrescarpe.

The problem with RER stop at Luxembourg and taxi is then it's not far enough, and some cabs may not want to do that. There is a taxi stand right there at the end of rue Soufflot and bd St Michel, there is no need to go to Denfert (although you could).

The closest Air France bus stop is probably Gare Montparnasse, you could go there and take a cab from there, also. For two people, I'd just take a cab from the airport instead of all that fooling around, becuase it wouldn't be worth the possible small savings (AF bus for two to Montparnasse is around 24 euro, and the cab might be 10-15 euro from there), but I know some people just won't take taxis. You wouldn't have to worry about some unusual traffic tieup from the airport that way, though, really raising the taxi fare. You must be very careful to get on the correct AF bus, though, as they have several routes.

http://CARS.AIRFRANCE.fr (18€ return) shows Ligne 4 stopping first at Gare de Lyon and terminating at Gare Montparnasse.

The former is easily within the minimum 5.20€ fare (as is Luxembourg).

robespierre: thanks so much for the reference. 18 Euro return looks like a good deal, and then a taxi to rue Mouffetard. We arrive on Continental, I assume that each terminal has a spot where it is apparent to pick up the Air France bus???

As I recall, the Air France Bus stop is really easy to find right outside the international terminal. Buy your tickets at the window & hop right on the bus. The driver was kind enough to stow my luggage for me under the bus.

I don't know about bus stops outside the other terminals.

Go to http://cars.airfrance.fr and press "Lignes" then "4" and you will see a map of CDG showing AF bus stops for that route.

(Note that Ligne 1 (to Étoile) does not stop at the same T2 Portes as Ligne 4.)
