How to find a long lost relative overseas

Do any of you have any ideas on how to find a long lost relative in Italy? I googled his name and found someone that sounded and looked like him. Wrote to him and alas, not him. I'm trying to surprise my boyfriend-this is his Italian cousin who he hasn't seen in almost 20 years. We are traveling to Italy in 2 weeks and would like to have a meeting lined up for him, or at least a phone call. I always thought I was a super sleuth but this one's got me flummoxed!! Help me out fellow Fodorites. You always come thru in the end!

Sometimes tourguides/drivers who work in the area, will perform the search for you by contacting the local city or village hall. But you would need to provide some details, like a rough date of birth, and last town lived in. A guide/driver we've often used in Sorrento has often told us his stories of connecting and arranging meetings for long lost relatives in southern Italy. I assume other tourguides/drivers may provide the same service. If you'd like his name, just post again, although I think it's going to be difficult to arrange all this in two weeks' time.

Good luck!
