Despite the price (and I think it was less for members), we always bought a pack of Euros from AAA. It was a luxury to us to be able to walk directly to cab/train or bus to get to our destination.

We always have a few Euros(100 or so)from our home bank on hand on arrival but have never not seen ATMs at airports. CC and Atms have always worked for us. we do however like to use bank attached ATMs and during bankiong hours rather than off site ones.In case something goes wrong you cab walk in the bank and try to sort it out. Do watch out for the charges on purchases..Get the charges in Euros rather than US$. You have to warth the charges and/or tell the cashier/waitperson/clerk "Euros, please."

Change at least $250 into euros before you go! Cabs, miscellaneous purchases at airport, whatever, you will need some regardless; many banks in USA will change for you, and it is WELL worth the convenience. We start with this amount, charge most dining purchases w/ a travel-benefitting visa card, and make ATM withdrawals only as required. Most hotels offer safes and it is just so much less stressful to start w/ some euros. Do you want to worry about safety of ATMs overseas?? Just get them here and only withdraw from ATMS where the banks attached are open for customer service.

NO, it's not. There is little/no issue with safety of ATMs overseas. If you're a scaredy-cat about being in foreign places, sure, get some euros ahead of time at really inflated prices, but otherwise, land at the airport and hit the ATM.
