How to email to a Virgin Mobile phone number?
 

I found these 2 ways to supposely email a Virgin Mobile phone but I'm not sure if it's for UK cell phones.

Do these work for UK numbers or do I use something else?

I don't even understand the question. Are you saying you know someone with Virgin phone service, and you want to email them to that it reaches their mobile phone? I do agree that you should contact Virgin customer services to get the details...

Of course, you never know - someone here may know how to do this and can advise.

The GSM operators for UK are Hutchison, O2, Orange, T Mobile and Vodafone.

Yes, I would like to send someone an email to their Virgin Mobile phone. I know someone that purchased a prepaid sim card. They are on vacation so they don't really know too much about the service there. They get free incoming emails. If I sent a text, it would cost .15 per text for international text from my cell phone. I'm thinking that maybe they don't have that service in the UK?

In the US, you can actually send an email from your computer to a cell phone. Makes things easier for those that don't have a cell phone for texting.

Look for an SMS gateway on the internet. With some a limited number of SMS are free. I have a German O2 contract. (Have been working there for a couple of years), but it still costs me 3€ per month to access my emails over the phone.

To repeat an earlier question: why aren't you just sending a text?

It might cost you 15c or whatever. But it costs them nothing to receive, and the message just pops up on their phone. However Virgin UK may operate incoming emails, emails are nothing like as straightforward for the recipient.

If your correspondent isn't into faffing about with obscure functionalities, sending them an email isn't looking at it from their point of view. You're selfishly trying to save a few of your cents for absolutely no benefit to your friend.

This whole IMS stuff is a North American fad that's quite irrelevant in the 95% of the world where mobile phones are universal and effortless. Instead of trying to impose this insular system on your friend in Britain, simply use the global technology that mobiles in the real world are designed for.
