Hello! I traveled in Venice and Florence the first weeks of December. Everyone wears warm long coats, hats, gloves, sweaters, etc. Also make sure to bring comfortable walking shoes that won't be slippery on the marble and stone if it rains. Maybe think about packing silkweight long underwear? Don't laugh - I'm from MN and had plenty of it and almost didn't take it on my trip. Very glad I did! You'll do LOTS of walking outside and even if it's only 45 degrees, it gets cold after a few hours.
I wouldn't recommend a raincoat but definitely bring an umbrella (try to pack as light as possible, especially if going to Venice. On my recent trip I had to drag my suitcase all the way through Venice because the traghettos were on strike!). However, if you forget one, don't worry, on rainy days you'll find street vendors more than happy to sell you one! The hotels I stayed at provided guests with umbrellas for the day if it was raining too.

I'm a bit hesitant to ask this as it sounds silly, but what types of (women's) hats do you all recommend? Are there any that are water resistant or waterproof? I wish to know as I'll be visiting Paris next month and I understand it'll be cold for sure and possibly rain a bit. I'm ignorant on this as I don't usually wear hats, just carry an umbrella as it's not as cold as Paris here in San Francisco.
Thanks in advance.
