How to dial this UK number from the US
I have tried all day to call the Prince of Wales Theatre in London. I have called London before, and, in fact, I called this week a couple of times to another agency with no trouble. The number listed for the theatre by theatremonkey.com:
0844 482 5138. I think that is no longer a working number. I tried every combination of 011 44 207 and the number possible, and finally talked to an internation operator who decided the number was not a working number. I did a search and found a more up to date number: 0870 850 0393. I was able to get through to this number, I think, by dialing (I have dialed so many combinations of numbers today that I totally confused): 011 44 870 850 0303, but a message said that the number had changed to: 0844 482 5120. I dialed: 011 44 844 482 5120. I got a voice mail that she was away from her desk and to call during regular business hours! I know that there can be a city code for London, but where do I put it or do I? Do I drop the initial 0? What am I doing wrong and what is with the 08 numbers? Can anyone help me and the international operator? |
Drop the zero. Use 8444825138, not 08444825138.

You can't dial most 0844 numbers from the states. They are like 800 numbers in the US. Same as when you are traveling overseas and have to contact your stateside credit card company, etc. You'd need to get a collect number or an inside number.
So search deeper into the website - often there is something like "overseas callers telephone ########" If there isn't one - then e-mail and ask how to phone from outside the UK. I had to contact the cameron Makintosh group just a few days ago because there was no way to book Donmar Westend shows by phone from the states. I got an inside number from them. |
Try this:
011 44 844 482 5138 |
oh, I didn't see janisj's post. I didn't realize 844 was like an 800 number. Does the theater not have its own website, with at least an email address where you could write for contact info?

I will warn you though - that 7498 number listed on the website rang and rang over two days of trying. No answerphone or anything came on. Hopefully you will have better luck than I did.
I ended up phoning a different department and asked them to find a booking number for me. It was an entirely different # - that at least had voice mail/answering machine. I'm REALLY sorry I can't give you the number - I wasn't at home at the time and just wrote it on a bit of scratch paper. |
Thank you for all the help. I had a feeling it was an "800" number than I couldn't access from the US. I looked for a way to email or another number earlier, but I found nothing. I will try to FAQ. What a frustrating day!

Are you trying to book tickets - or do you need to talk to them about something else?
For some theatres, phoning the box office works like a charm. But for the Delfont/Mackintosh stable - on-line booking seems to be easiest from overseas. |
Online booking for the only night we can see the play says to call the box office for availability. I found the number I need in the FAQ's.

So you're sorted?
If not try this number-0 44 207 766 2100. It's the Stage Door as listed by BT. Ask them if they have a normal number for the office that you can have |
