How to deal with all those digital photos I'll be taking?

I always bring memory cards just in case I don't get around to uploading pics to a website, but I haven't used them yet.
I typically use an internet cafe everyday, checking email, etc. and upload the pictures to community webshots while I do so. Then, I can add quick captions (it never takes very long to do all this, esp. if i do it every day or every other day). Otherwise, I find if I wait till I get home, I've forgotten the keen details for each picture!
When I get home from my trip, I then save some of my favorite pictures to my hard drive (off the website), order some of the pictures..but I like having them online where they won't be lost if my computer crashes. (Plus my friends and family find it very easy to see the pictures that way)
Am I the only person who does this in this forum? I'm getting the feeling you all rely on those memory cards . To each his own!

Well, I travel with my laptop now, so I backup my photos during my trip and don't rely on my memory cards. I also burn a CD or DVD every day or two with some of the keeper shots just in case my laptop hard drive crashes.
Sometimes I don't have a free internet connection with my laptop when I travel so I don't always want to spend the time uploading them to the web. Usually I email a few choice shots to friends. I upload them to my own website when I get home.

I started with a 256 meg chip and bought additional chips as I needed them. Digital photo chips are getting to be more common than film. Being the size of a quarter this is the simplest way to carry your pictures around. I shot at less than maximum capacity of my camera so I was able to store over 450 pictures on each chip. Just because you can shoot at 4 or more megapixels doesn't mean you must. My photos were 1600 by 1200 pixels and weighed about 500 kb each. That is way off screen so I cropped and reduced them to about 1/3 in dimensions and about 50 megs each. That's plenty, unless you're a professional.
Download the free Picasa software for viewing your pictures. It displays a thumbnail of each picture and allows zooming in and some editing, though I prefer Adobe Photoshop for editing.
Tip: reset your camera's clock to local time and date when you arrive in Europe.

With memory so cheap, why wouldn't you shoot at maximum resolution (not including raw) of your camera. That makes little sense to me. It has to do with the sharpness of the end picture, no matter how large it is.

Andrew and others gave me such fear that I plan to buy a 512MB card to have in addition to the 2GB. I also intend to shoot a few video clips which was another reason I got the 2 GB.
BTW - in researching SD cards, I had found a lot of negative reviews re. the Sandisk cards and wound up buying the ATP brand. Which brand has worked best for all of you?

I have not had a failure with any CF (first digital), Smart Memory (second digital) and back to CF for third. Did have a Smart Memory lock up one time and not be able to download it but our son did something like "renamed it and it downloaded".
