how to best post a trip report?
 

What the best way to post my report...? I know if it's too long it doesn't work well.

If it's longer than about 500 words, cut/paste/post the first 400 words or so, then go to that same thread and post subsequent chunks as replies to hte original message, so all the pieces stay together.

The only exception to this is if you visited several countries, it would be OK to post each country as a separate message, since many readers just want posts about one place.

Also, please break up each segment of the report into paragraphs!

I like people to offer their trip report via e-mail with a brief description of the area they visited. That way I get the whole report and can print it out without copying & pasting into Word and reformatting. Of course this doesn't work if you don't want people to know your e-mail address. Personally, when I've offered mine, I haven't gotten junk mail because of it and have gotten requests.

Nancy, here's another way to print out trip reports: Just click anywhere on the right-hand side of the screen (not on the side where you see the list of posts). Then, click print and voila! the trip report will appear in your printer! No copying, pasting, etc.

I agree with anonymous, just make a couple posts in a row on the same thread if you need to break it up for length. I like reading trip reports and if there is a section over a country or place I'm not that interested in, I can just skip it. I think it is good to break the posts up in a logical manner if they cover totally different countries (ie, one post for England, one for Scotland, etc). I actually like seeing all of them together in one thread, even if separate countries, as you get a better feel for the trip and the person that way, there's more continuity.

Agree with posting in sections and using paragraphs. It can be as long as you want it to be.

Please do NOT label it with the words "Invaluable" or "Quick Tips" since both of those are value judgements and come off as conceited at the very least.

If you can, proof it for spelling (something I admit I never do!!!) otherwise you're liable to get the Fodors "grammar police" doing their "I'm so superior to you even though I live in a dump and dress like a slob" number on you.

Finally, just POST it and don't worry about whether or not it is "as good as" anyone else's you have read...it is YOUR report about YOUR trip and that's what makes it "interesting."

"otherwise,..." and "Fodor's.."

I don't think that he needs a comma after otherwise but he need a period in the sentence. :-)

I've always been confused though -- is the name Fodor's or Fodors? If it's the former, don't we need to use Fodor's' in that example before? I wonder what the rule is here. :-)
