How to ask questoins

So,
We had a thread about how to be nice to newcomers.
A thread about how to have the right to rant.

Now I'd like to know how to ask a question - obviously I failed....
My question was about Shanghai, but hey, coulds have been for Paris !

I wa snbot asking for the moon, so any advice welcome, just in case I might need advice in future.
Loikely ? No. But who knows.

Seems like a fine question.

IMDonehere Apr 13th, 2016 07:03 AM

What are talking about? (Insert snarky smiley face.)

janisj Apr 13th, 2016 07:10 AM

You didn't get a response in 4 hours and are upset?

You do know it s the middle of the night in Asia?

tuscanlifeedit Apr 13th, 2016 07:13 AM

Hello, What

I've asked two questions lately about my upcoming trip to London. One was very specific, about a European dance company, and one was much more general, asking for opinions on my crowded London itinerary.

Question 1 got no replies.

Question 2 got one comment. I had listed about six or seven venues.

I tried to be clear and specific. I think I might have drummed about more response with "What should I do in London?"

I've got another question, about Food Halls, and I'm afraid to ask. I don't think I'll get snark; I'm just worried that I'll get nothing.

nukesafe Apr 13th, 2016 07:13 AM

He is in Asia, Janisj, I think.

janisj Apr 13th, 2016 07:17 AM

>>He is in Asia, Janisj, I think.<<

AFAIK he is in Europe and is asking about China.

janisj Apr 13th, 2016 07:23 AM

tuscanlifeedit: I saw both your questions but didn't post

Especially the one about the exhibitions - I've received e-mails from the various venues about most of them but haven't visited any so couldn't add anything. Both threads were pretty specific - I've not heard of the dance company.

StCirq Apr 13th, 2016 07:27 AM

No, he's in Shanghai, or was when he posted the question.

janisj Apr 13th, 2016 07:28 AM

Oh - I see he is there now . . .

jamikins Apr 13th, 2016 07:29 AM

tuscanlifeedit - I didnt respond because I havent been to your the places in your specific question! If you ask about food stalls I can most likely provide you with information.

tuscanlifeedit Apr 13th, 2016 07:30 AM

I did get some feedback.

Our days are so crowded that we've decided to skip any performances. No time.

Thanks.

Janisj
I posted on 12 - 12 03 pm - answered my own post at 13 4:29 - one hour ago.

It is close to midnight now in Shanghai.Or better said I posted yesterday after my first evening asking what I should do next evening - meaning now.

I had a nice evening in Yuyuan - one thing I didn't know was that restaurants close early here - so we had to retreat to the hotel to eat when I was refused in 2 restaurants at about 8 30 pm.
I could have used some info / tips.

So, how should I have posted and now how long should I have waited ?

thursdaysd Apr 13th, 2016 08:01 AM

I have been to Shanghai, but the last time was in 2004. Any evening info I could provide would be minimal and hopelessly out of date, so I didn't look at the thread. And for regular sightseeing over just one or two days I couldn't top the standard must see lists.

On the other hand, I did post on this thread:

http://www.fodors.com/community/asia...i-568906-2.cfm

So it was a matter of the title, not the wording of the question.

suec1 Apr 13th, 2016 08:17 AM

Well I think the Europe boards are more active than Asia. Did you try the Tripadvisor forum? When I was headed to Bangkok, I got some good info there. Snark is not limited to Fodors! On Tripadvisor, there is a side column of FAQ's / general advice - it is good to look at those before posting. Good luck!

IMDonehere Apr 13th, 2016 08:23 AM

I posted a few questions about Spain and received many useful answers, especially from familiar names. I posted some questions about Morocco and received one or two good answers but the Africa board seems to be moribund.

StCirq Apr 13th, 2016 09:37 AM

IDH, been to Morocco quite a few times if you need further tips.

Whathello, send me an email and I'll have Steve answer you. He doesn't read Fodors much at all, but he lived in Asia for 14 years and knows Shanghai well. Actually, after he makes the fire, I'll ask him to email you asap.

StCirq Apr 13th, 2016 09:55 AM

Whathello, I just sent you an email.

IMDonehere Apr 13th, 2016 10:11 AM

Thanks ST. Cirq.
