We stayed in Voss for 2 nights. We did the Flam Railway which was terrific. Since we had so little time, we did the train from Voss to Myrdal, then the Flam Railway, then the fjord cruise and then bus back to Voss. It was one of the best days of our lives!!

my boyfriend and I are planning a similar trip starting July 2nd. We are going to spend 3 nights in Oslo, 1 in Flam during our NIAN trip, 1 in Bergen, 3 in Stockholm and 3 in Copenhagen. We have finished booking all our flights and I am now trying to find hotels. I was curious how did you manage to get the 40% discount on Clarion hotels? I was able to find some summer discounts, but mostly for Thon Hotels.

Chicago, every spring Clarion offers summer discounts in these cities to jump-start their reservations. This offer begins in March/April and ends in early May. I had read that there were drastic summer hotel rate reductions in Scandinavia so I did my research in late winter.

I was able to get this discount in all cities at a "Collection" hotel except Bergen. I chose them because the Clarion Collection Hotels offer a free simple dinner buffet and I wanted to avoid the astronomical costs of restaurants.

Here are my hotels and the price including tax for a standard double room for 2 adults per night, not per person:

Clarion Hotel Admiral in Bergen: $137. but does not include dinner
Clarion Collection Hotel Twentyseven in Copenhagen: $130.
Clarion Collection Hotel Wellington in stockholm: $158.
Clarion Collection Hotel Folketeateret: $125.

I would have preferred the Mayfair in Copenhagen and the Havnekontoret in Bergen but I was not able to act quickly enough. The promotion at these hotels were filled within days.

Obviously these are outrageously low rates and I am sorry for you that the promotion has expired. Perhaps another visit in the future or for those going next year.

Hotel Folketeateret is in Oslo

chicago: You might get something out of our trip report. We too had stops in Oslo, Bergen and Copenhagen.

Thanks for the suggestions! We weren't really planning on going to Scandinavia this summer since we've been to Sweden a few years ago, but two of our friends are getting married in Stockholm so we had to come up with a itinerary. I know it took us a while to decide, but hopefully we will still be able to find some good hotel deals. I am looking at Clarion Hotel Savoy in Oslo with 10% off for booking early and I got a list of budget accommodations from the Skansen Pension manager in Bergen. We might book a cheaper hotel than Clarion in Stockholm, since we will barely spend any time there with the wedding activities. Expedia seems to have some good deals for Copenhagen, so I just have to go through the options!
