NO I should not have made a comment as I'm not an expert.
It just goes to show you everyones trip experience is different!! It's amazing what a couple of blocks makes...
I would assume then that it is similar to New Orleans...the only street XXX there is a short section of Bourbon and even thats not a problem as long as you keep walking. And still some very desirable area surrounding "it".
The only section of Paris I wasn't comfortable in was the area near Le Halle and St Merrys after dark. But it doesnt matter where you are bad things can happen ...
Rue Lepic is awesome...I wont go east next time thanks

The Moulin Rouge isn't on bd de Clichy, anyway.
I used to work in HOllywood very near an area with a lot of prostitues, and have certainly been on bd de CLichy at various times, and completely disagree that there is nothing wrong with a lot of sleazy shops and peep shows and they aren't dodgy. Yes, they are. It's not just the people who visit them, it is the business, also, and the people who run them and work in them.

Agree with other posters that this is a fine neighborhood, and convenient by foot or metro to the rest of Paris.
Just fyi, L'Etoile d'Or, perhaps the best candy store in Paris, is on 30 rue Fontaine.

I was in the outer arr. when the metro was closing and there was a female single drunk American student...I didnt feel she should be putting herself in that situation..
Then there was a bomb scare and we were forced to exit into unknow territory,I was nervous ...Just make her aware of safety issues...other than where she lives..
