How reliable is Mappy.com in Italy?
We have been using Mappy.com for directions and estimated drive times in Tuscany, but are wondering how reliable it is? Are those times realistic or should we tack on extra to account for windy roads and the lack of signs/landmarks?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi mw,
I always www.mappy.com compare routes and times with www.viamichelin.com. They are not always the same.

I think they are completely unreliable when estimating driving time and routing.
Winding roads not the problem as much as traffic (especially slow moving vehicles like trucks and grandpas on bikes), getting lost and finding a parking place that add to journeys, and those vary.
Where are you going? Between where and where? You'd probably do better to ask here on Fodor's or on the Slow Travel website how long it takes. Chances are someone else will have driven it, maybe even more than once.

We follow Ira's advice - compare with viamichelin.com. That said, I think that you find that the distances are generally pretty accurate for the routes that they suggest. The drive times are really up to you and also the road conditions you encounter.
