How much was your airfare?
 

I had an odd thing happen when I was buying our tickets the other night. I usually use Travelocity but I saw a better return flight on Lufthansa’s website and decided to pay more and purchase through Lufthansa. I had been checking out all of the alternatives for airports and departure times and tried to backpage again to make my final selections. It kept giving me an error message so I had to close the page and start all over again. The price dropped by $200! I’ve never had a price go down while I was shopping – it usually happens immediately after!

So we ended up with $1540 for 2 from NY into Frankfurt and back out of Munich. It’s expensive but we really want to go.

We bought our tickets in mid April for travel in July/August from IAD(washington, dc) to Frankfurt $1430.00 total.

I don't understand your title, as compared to what/WHEN? What month are you talking about?

Try flying from Australia! Unfortunately, I was only able to go in high season (August). Airfares including taxes into Zurich and out of London were AU$2266 per person, which roughly equates to US$1650 per person - and this was the "early bird" price!

Never have I paid so much for a roundtrip flight from Zürich - Seattle. We're leaving the end of July and flying with BA. The cheapest flight I could find (booked in January!) was SFr. 1,900. Everything included. Ouch!

No, Dohlice, you're not the only sucker! :-) I'm searching for tickets to Rome in December--on Delta, which is the only carrier that can get us there with one stop, the fare is $889/per. My plan is to wait until August to see if the price dips but am tempted to buy now for fear of an increase.

I guess I am lucky: my airfare to nywhere cost me my former blood, sweat and tears raking up over a million of frequent flyer miles. So I can now stretch out comfortably in the first class on a recent trip to Japan from US and it dis cot me only 120 000 miles.
A trip to Europe in tursit class: 50 000 miles, to Latin America: 25-35 000 miles. It will last for a few more years and then I'll start asking my daughter and son-in-law (who both now have more miles than I and are still raking new ones) to give me miles for birthday, Christmas and all other occassions. :-)

I've been fare-checking everyday this past week, looking for Orlando-Rome for either second half of march or late may-early June 2007. I saw the price for one specific flight go up $31 in 4 days, so am wondering if we should jump in now or wait and see what fall brings. Quite a dilemna!

Wow, $889 – could it be any more expensive? I know, I know it could ALWAYS be more expensive! I went to Rome over Memorial Day weekend one year and paid under $400.

Anciana, that’s a lot of miles – I’m sure it was well worth it though.

Hagan – it is very hard to know when to just bite the bullet and get the tickets. I didn’t want to wait on ours because there is a 9:45pm flight out on Friday and if that filled up I would have lost a whole day. Rome was very nice the time I went at the end of May!

I just want to remind you that December is ALSO high season to Rome with Christmas and vacations. Rome has become such a popular destination that you cannot expect cheap prices on airfare there. I believe that Delta has the most nonstops from the US(JFK,ATLANTA AND CINCINNATI) so if as you say you want to get there and start the vacation immediately then you have to decide whether its worth the waiting game or 4 stop connecting game. Seriously, its mind boggling to me how many younger students are now going to Europe on school trips especially to Rome so be prepared for full flights no matter what time of the year it is.

We're actually looking at going early December--hotel rates are quite good.

We have more than enough miles on American but December is out of season.
