How much time needed to go from Dusseldorf to Fussen?
I am still trying to iron out the details of my upcoming (first) trip to Europe. My itinerary for Germany has changed and I wanted to know how many days a friend and I would need to travel from Dusseldorf to Frankfurt and then down the Romantic Road to Munich and Fussen. What are the best stops along the way in which to spend the night? We would also like to do a day trip to Salzburg. Do you think there would be time for that? I have a week to spend in Germany before heading to Venice. Any input would be appreciated!

Agree - car or train?
Also - why to Frankfurt?
From Dusseldorf to Munich you are looking at a 6 hour train ride - then another couple of hours to Fussen. By car? depends on traffic.
My advice - go to Munich for 3-4 days and use that as a base to explore bavaria. Then spend a couple of days winding your way back north along the Romantic Road.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I am sorry I didn't give you more details. I will be traveling by car with a friend who lives near Dusseldorf. He is traveling with me as far south as Fussen. We will then backtrack to Munich, where I will take a night train to Venice and he will, unfortunately, have to return home. We wouldn't have to go to Frankfurt, but my understanding is that the Romantic Road goes south from Frankfurt. I really want to know if 7 days is sufficient to explore these areas and, if so, whether a day trip to Salzburg would also be possible (or even worth the trouble?). Thanks again!

Nut,
I think I got it now. I would travel along the Rhine and see some castles. There are many nice small towns to choose from. St. Goar has a particularly interesting ruin called Rheinsfels. From there you can head towards Rottenburg o.b.t., that is the usual place to stop, but there are many others in the area. You can do a search on the Romantic Road and find several recommendations. From there on to Fussen. A day trip to Salzburg is logistically possible, but I don't know if it would be worth it. There are many things to see and so little time. I have been there 5 times and still haven't seen everything. Hope this helps.
Caio,
