How much time needed between flights in Madrid ??

We're planning to fly from Barcelona to Madrid and then home to the US on the same day. How much time do you veterans think we will need between flights in order to be VERY comfortable getting from one to the other? How far apart are the domestic & international terminals at MAD?

We just did a Barcelona to Madrid flight in November. Think our connection left in about 1 1/2 hours.
The walk between the two gates seemed long to me (they all do!!) but we had plenty of time to sit around and wait for our flight to depart.

Thanks grandma -- I'm surprised it's so little time, what with exit stuff and security.

Have you already booked your flights out of Madrid?

You should be able to do an open jaw ticket from US to Madrid, then BCN-Mad-US, without it costing much more than the r/t US-Madrid. That's what I did.

My flight from BCN to MAD to JFK stopped in MAD for about 1 hour, and we didn't even get off the plane.

Unless you are flying Iberia and have your checked luggage 'checked thru' you should probably allow at least 2.5 hours. U.S. Airlines have to be pretty strict and you'll undergo some questioning as you check in for your U.S. bound flight.

Then there's the distance to the gate: Barajas has several new International departure gates along a concourse east from the Check-in area. You'll have to make your way from Terminal 2 or 3 to the International Terminal (#1) to check in. Then you may have a hike to one of the boarding gates in a recently constructed wing of the airport. Our Madrid-Newark Continental Airlines flight departed from that new gate area.

Thanks very much, all of you. You've been very helpful. I gather there's no such thing as a tram or other transportation between the terminals?
