How much time need to comfortably see Tuscany and Amalfi Coast

Have a question similar to one previously posted. I have been to Italy before, but just the "big three." This trip I am going to spend a little time in Rome, but the rest will be in Tuscany and on the Amalfi Coast. Looking for recommendations as to how much time is required to get a reasonably good flavor of each area at a fairly relaxed pace. Will be traveling there Spring 2003.

Jack, That is a bit tough to answer--I assume you are not including Florence.
Of course, you can easily spend a week at both. I see the Amalfi coast as demanding a minimum of 3 days and 5 is better if you include Pompeii and Capri.
For Tuscany,at least 4 days to see the hill towns, and 5 is better if you plan to include any of Umbria--like Assisi.
At www.slowtrav.com they will tell you to spend a week at both and rent an apt. or villa--not a bad idea.

Thanks Bob, that's just the kind of information I was looking for.
