How much time in Budapest?
 

I am planning a trip to Europe next summer with my girlfriend and we want to go to Budapest and we would like to know is 2 full days enough time to appreciate this city or do we need longer! we both pretty much just like to wonder the streets of a city and feel its atmosphere! we are not that big on museums etc

2-3 days should be enough. Be sure to visit the Castle District.

After visiting a place like Budapest, you two may be talking marriage.
I spent 2 days there in 1992, and it seems like yesterday. 3 days would have been even better. Try to stay somewhere near the Danube so you can walk along the river, absorb the beautiful panorama with the old bridge, the castle, cathedral, etc.
That will save you a lot of time.

I think 2 full days is not enough. I'd suggest at least 3, and more if you would enjoy a trip outside -- the full-day Danube Bend tour to Estergom, Visegrad and Szentendre is quite nice.

Budapest has lots but it also is spread out, so figure on using some public transport (easy to do) to get around. The castle district is great for walking, as is Vaci utca, but you'll still appreciate a tram or subway.

Spend some time in one of the thermal baths -- most are single sex, but some accommodate both at once (as some of those at the Gellert). Though you are not "big on museums", you might enjoy a couple there, such as the National Museum and the Ethnographic. Both will add to appreciating the "flavor" of the culture in Hungary.

We had 2.5 days to actually sight-see (Our plane landed at 9:30 AM). Another 1/2 day and we would have covered the entire city. Of course there are some things we could have skipped so the 2.5 days would have been sufficient. But, if you want to do the Danube Bend tour (which seemed ultra touristy to me) you or see some of the Buda Hills or Obuda, you definitely need another full day.

Definitely add one more day so you can take advantage of the spies... I guess you're a man, but trust me, you want the pampering. For less than US $35 each, my girlfriends and I spent a full day in the thremal baths at the Hotel Gellert, plus a full body massage, plus a mudbath. Granted, it was rainy, so we didn't want to sight see in BEAUTIFUL Budapest. It may be my favorite travel destination, and I've been all over Europe. Be sure to check out the restaurants around Jokai Ter--as with EVERYTHING in Budapest, they are incredibly affordable--but very chic/swanky. We ate at a great Morroccan restaurant nearby...

Oh! I'm so jealous! I wish I were going with you. Be sure to hike up to the castle, and to the Liberation Monument, and down the Andrassy Ut looking at all of the grand Baroque architecture...

I meant sight see THAT DAY; the day we went to the spa... The remaining 4 days we toured around! (Just to clarify)

I think three days is the perfect time for a brief visit because it allows you to see more than the sites right on the Danube. However, two is fine to see the most important sights.
