Basingstoke, I think it means you have to pay extra if you want to land... I suppose you round up a few euro for the tip, as usual!

I do love this one. Can anyone find any BillyandBettyJones' or Muffin's threads? (Squeek, squeek!)

Ok, my best tip story

I flew Air New Zealand on an internal flight and the company had been going through a cost reduction exercise and our short flight coffee and muffins came around with the following announcement.

"Gentlemen and Ladies. In the box in front of you are the muffins that Air NZ are offering you, we thought you deserved better so here are the muffins that the staff have bought you" massive muffins come around next to tiny ones in company colours " no tips please, we are proud to fly you".

Round of applause.

Ends.

Perhaps the passengers should have had a whip-round for a roll of gaffer tape for this pilo

Now there is a modern twist to this. I saw on the news that a hotel in CA is having room service delivered by a robot. So, how much do you tip a robot? Come to think of it, an airplane flies most of its route on autopilot. Is the autopilot tipped separately or does the pilot share the tips?

>>So, how much do you tip a robot? <<

A couple of squirts of 3-in-1 oil should do it. But be discreet about it.

basingstoke2 Aug 17th, 2014 07:04 PM

If I am not carrying 3-in-1 oil, would astrolube do, considering we are at 30,000 feet?

GreenDragon Feb 5th, 2015 05:09 AM

I think the tip of the robot would be fine with a bit of vaseline or KY jelly, am I wrong?

nukesafe Feb 5th, 2015 07:29 AM

Slick answer, GD! :-)

GreenDragon Feb 5th, 2015 09:17 AM

I slid home on that one :)

nukesafe Feb 5th, 2015 09:27 AM

I have some good ones to add, but I think the best tip is that we had better stop this before we get shafted, don't you think?

GreenDragon Feb 5th, 2015 01:21 PM

True, we might tip over into the deep end soon.

Peter_S_Aus Feb 5th, 2015 01:26 PM

I have been looking forward to this re-surfacing.

Tipping would depend on whether the pilot is directing an aircraft or a ship.

Great thread, thanks for bumping.

I was at a piano bar and patrons would tip the pianist for playing special requests. I think that would work nicely for pilots as well and they could augment their income by doing barrel rolls, loops, etc., upon request for an appropriate monetary consideration. It would entertain the passengers as well on long boring flights.

letsgeaux Feb 5th, 2015 07:47 PM

For the pilot, $20.00 should be good, but only in the event of a successful landing.

GreenDragon Feb 6th, 2015 04:08 AM

I'll tip him extra if he flies low enough below the clouds to see Greenland as we cross the ocean. :)

Dayenu Feb 6th, 2015 03:37 PM

If the pilot takes me to Hawaii instead of my business trip destination, I will tiiiiiiiiippppp himmmmmmm ;)

sludick Feb 6th, 2015 04:05 PM

basingstoke2, you have my vote for best idea!

I love old threads like this. It's fun to see the names of posters who have been here for years. It's also great to re-read posts from our dear departed posters such as LoveItaly. I miss her terribly. ((F))
