How much should I expect to pay to get from FCO to central Rome by taxi or shuttle?

Our family of 5 flies into FCO and is renting a flat on via dei Cappellari. I read a fairly recent post here about a limo service that charged 49 euro. When I went to their website, it looked like it was going to be 59 euro. When I asked for a quote, they said their special "discounted" price was 79 euro.

That seems like too much to me...or am I not living in the real world? Does anybody know what a fair fare should be?

missypie,

Just curious who you contacted? I've been in touch with Rome Cabs, and they quoted me E55 for the four of us to be picked up in a deluxe van at FCO and driven to our hotel in central Rome.

It was LIMOSERVICES Rome that gave me the 79 euro "discounted" rate. I'll try to the other one. Thanks.

Hmmm....we had a reservation with Limoservices Roma and our rate was about 55 euro, and that was only because we were being picked up very early to go to the airport and we had to pay a surcharge. I'm assuming its because there are 5 people. I certainly wouldn't pay 79 euro!

Good luck!

Now that I've looked at the other site, may 79 euro WAS "discounted." Airportshuttle charges 83 euro for a private van. It would be 61 euro for a shared van.

Maybe I need to just get used to these numbers for a while. When we went to Paris, we rode the RER into CDG, then walked the 6 or so blocks from the station to our flat. It was a big pain, esp. lugging our bags up the broken escalators; also, the cobblestones broke a piece off the bottom of my luggage...I need to remember all of this and maybe then I'll be willing to shell out the money to ride a private shuttle in Rome!

Not much better, but a little cheaper, http://www.rome-shuttle.com/ has a rate of 68 euros for a one-way private mini bus that holds up to 8.

I've used www.limoservicerome.com but they have recently raised their rates and it will cost 65E for a family of 5. However, it will cost 47.5E to take the train to Termini and then you will have to find a taxi (?E) from there to your hotel. Your family would have to manage their luggage on the train which might be very crowded and I doubt 5 people with luggage would fit in one taxi.

I would book one of the limo services and someone will be waiting for you at the airport, with a sign with your name on it, load your luggage and whisk you off to your hotel.

We've just hopped into a cab every time we've gone from FCO to the center of Rome. The fare, including tip, is in the 60-70 euro range, for the two of us.

I also used Rome Cabs a few weeks ago for three people from FCO into the city center and it was 45 euro. The return trip very early in the morning was 55 euro.

We were very, very pleased with the services of Rome Cabs and even used them for some tours while we were there.

Weadles, tell Stefano I said hello.

There are 2 different limo companies with similar names. The one I use is limoservicerome. The other one that people have had problems with is limoserviceSrome. Note the S in the name.

Weadles, since I was traveling with my mother, who is not well and has trouble getting around, we did a few tours with Stefano of Rome Cabs and were very pleased.

We spent a day in the countryside, did a tour around Rome, and also did a night tour in the city. He was very informative, courteous, professional, prompt, and especially patient with my mom.

We were in Rome November 2005 and made arrangements through our hotel for a limo on arrival & return to FCO. Since we pre-arranged both trips it cost us 50E on arrival and 45E on the return trip. There were two of us with luggage and it was worth the 100E not to deal with luggage on trains, buses, etc
