How much for a gondola ride

How much should I expect to pay for a gondola ride. Are there any cheaper times of day or places to hire them? Are any canals more interesting that others. We leave in a day or so. Any tips or suggestions? I know we can use the vaporetto and traghetto but we want to take the kids on the gondola ride as well. Thanks

At night, the official price is around 90 euro for 50 minutes. It is negotiable--both ways.

We paid 80 euro for our gondola ride in March, it was almost an hour. We picked it up near Orseolo canal just off of St. Marks. (Right near our hotel Locanda Orseolo). We left about 6:00pm so the sun was setting as we returned. We went through several interior canals and our gondolier pointed out places of interest. We then went down the Grand Canal for a short time and back through the interior canals. It was a wonderful way to see Venice!! We were with our kids as well. It was still romantic and worth every Euro!
