How many times have you vacationed in Europe?

I have been 4 times, my 5th coming in Sept.

TXgalinGA Apr 19th, 2006 06:00 AM

5 times... 6th this summer. I count my self lucky- I'm 27 yrs old and don't travel for business. (Summers are off and I also have spring break- one of the few :) perks of being a teacher!)

Seven times between 1973 and 1999, including a stint as an exchange student and later, study at the Sorbonne. In 1999, we got tired of those long flights for European vacations, so we packed up and moved here. We still take most of our vacations in Europe, but don't keep track anymore (although if I counted day trips from Brussels and London, I've been to Paris more than 100 times).

I have been going to europe every year since 1997 this year 2006 makes it my 10th time. I didn't start traveling until my late 40's and wanted to go at least once....unfortunately it is like a drug. I can't seem to stop. My only regret is that I didn't discover this earlier in my life. This year is France again...3rd time.

Next week will mark my 6th trip in two years! i'm addicted. Like TXgalin, I don't travel for business either and I'm 21 years old, so I also consider myself lucky.

About 20 times. The first way back in 1974 - totally on a budget and using Eurailpass for back-up sleeping etc! We never thought we'd get back. (Educators with large family) Now, retired, we usually get there 2 or 3 times a year. As our travel time is running out, we are trying to "git er done" & see as much as we can of our beautiful world. Since 2002 we have been there about 12 times and coming again in May. By the way, we're STILL on a budget, but not as stringent.

Powell Apr 19th, 2006 06:21 AM

I am a senior citizen who first traveled to Europe at age 51. My wife and I have traveled to Europe every year but one since 1989. We leave on our 16th trip tomorrow to Amsterdam (first time).

We have traveled to Provence and elsewhere in France for 13 years in a row; may keep our skein going this October. We have visited Austria (1), Germany (1), Ireland (3), Italy (2), etc.

We are not wealthy but careful use of FFM, traveling off-season, etc. has made it possible. We have been very fortunate and thank God for his blessings.

Travel is exhilirating. So much to see, learn and enjoy. St. Augustine said it best: ""The world is a book and those who do not travel, read only a page."

I am about to take my 19th trip, but at the end of this year it will be 24 trips, as we have several more planned for this year.

SuzieC Apr 19th, 2006 06:24 AM

5 X so far...Monday (4/24) I begin my 6th to Germany with my German fiance.

Life is good..and Powell? You're a hero!

wanderlust5 Apr 19th, 2006 06:26 AM

Forgot to add that we are in our 40's.

wanderlust5 Apr 19th, 2006 06:27 AM

Since everyone was listing our age.

I can't believe it took my 3 posts to get this information down to answer you. Clearly, I am heading for more coffee. (I am on the west coast and quite tired, apparently!)

Neopolitan Apr 19th, 2006 06:41 AM

Total of 16 times. Since 1995 -- 9 times, mostly longer trips of up to 5 months since we retired then.

I added up and figured out that all together I've spent just under three years in Europe if I added all the days together.

SuzieC Apr 19th, 2006 07:19 AM

Ages? Oops.. I'm 54, my SO is 64

GreenDragon Apr 19th, 2006 07:27 AM

Let's see -- does it count if you were too young to remember??

I was born in Copenhagen, and was back in Detroit before I was 3 months old :(

Then I traveled in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2005, and again this summer, all to the British Isles. So this will be my sixth trip, technically.

edhodge Apr 19th, 2006 07:28 AM

Only twice so far (Ireland) and I am already 46! Third time is coming up in October (Italy). I know that we will go to Greece, France and certainly we will return to Ireland. The more trip reports I read here, the longer my list grows. :)

GreenDragon Apr 19th, 2006 07:28 AM

Oh, forgot to say, I'm 37. I don't travel for business, though I got my undergrad degree in Accounting and International Business in hopes that I could get a job that would send me to Europe :)

Chicago_Heather Apr 19th, 2006 07:29 AM

My story is so similar to Vagabound Lady's ... first trip was in 1997 at 27 and have been addicted ever since. Have trips #13 (Spain in May) and #14 (Scotland in September) booked for this year. I save my $'s and count myself fortunate for every day on a trip.

dickv2 Apr 19th, 2006 07:36 AM

Started in 71 at 41 on an Amerx ITALY trip, just returned in Feb from # 23.
Total about 390 days...Gets more difficult as one gets older to start
young is the answer... Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..

I began my "international" travel (not counting Mexico and Canada) in 2000, when I was 37 years old and got my first passport.

I've made four trips to Europe since then: 2000: England. 2003: Italy, Greece and Turkey. 2004: France, England and Scotland. 2005: Spain, Portugal (and Morocco).

In 2002, I travelled the "other way" and went to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

I'm returning to Australia this year, in just over 30 days to be exact (leave May 22).
