How many people do you suppose look at this site daily?

Any one have any idea about how many people check this site daily? I wonder if it's a whole bunch, a sort of "silent majority," or is it just the few more vocal ones? Has there ever been any sort of report about the demographics of the average reader/poster?

Daniel Jun 14th, 2002 11:13 AM

No idea, but there must be some "Moderators" (nice for sensors) monitoring this site?<BR>Can we not reach them?<BR>Can you not tell us? Please!

Duh Jun 14th, 2002 12:02 PM

Gina--and Daniel, too, I guess--get a life!

EenieMeenie Jun 14th, 2002 12:13 PM

ah, Dear Duh, so appropriatly named!

Fobors-factman Jun 14th, 2002 12:23 PM

Gina, there has been posting recently with the demographics of the average reader/poster. Official Results for the moderators are: Whole bunch of sorta silent majority including a few more vocal ones.<BR>We can be reached at the above address but we can NOT TELL you. Please & Thank You.

I don't know how this question can ever be answered without some hints at "the data" from Fodors.<BR><BR>There have been numerous threads aimed at trying to tally how many unique individuals come here - - of course, it is an ever-changing population.<BR><BR>This is my sense - - at best my (very weakly) educated guess:<BR><BR>In a 48 hour period, 200-400 unique individuals come here who are willing to make some kind of posting, no matter how shy. I suspect that these people make 1.5 to 10 visits in a 48 hour period. Let's say that this is 500-2500 "visits"; it would translate into 10-50 times that number page views. The middle of this range is 10,000 to 25,000 page views per day.<BR><BR>Perhaps 30-50 of those people come here 15-30 times a week. Another 50-100 are "fairly regular" (5-10 times a month, possible running hot and cold, month in/month out). And the balance, in any given 48 hour period are "relative" newbies - - from my perspective, that means that they have been coming here less than a month, or have posted less than 10 times. Of course, the newbies are a continuously changing stream of people finding the site, and deciding not to come back. I suspect that many many people visit this site frequently for 15-60 days, and then taper way off, or stop coming with any regularity whatsoever.<BR><BR>To this 200-400, I would add another 400-2000 who read, but essentially NEVER post. They too, are an ever-changing population of visitors. Some come here once and never again. But I have no way of knowing if the number 400, or 2000 (or 40 or 40,000) is right.<BR><BR>But if it is a thousand, then they might add another 10,000 to 20,000 page views per day.<BR><BR>So, perhaps 5 to 10 million page views a year.<BR><BR>I could be off by a factor of a 100, high or low.<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>

Oh My God...

Dallas Jun 14th, 2002 03:03 PM

Well, Gina -- you wanted to know.

robyn Jun 14th, 2002 03:05 PM

I have got to tell you...I can't stop laughing at this amazing attempt to calculate the answer to this question.<BR>Rex, you are hilarious.

Relative Newby Jun 14th, 2002 03:11 PM

You see, that is why I come here. I love this site, where else could I get such information!!

Kelsey Jun 14th, 2002 03:14 PM

Paraphrasing the Master Card commercials:<BR><BR>Counting imaginary people and page views: hilarious<BR><BR>Criticizing the counting, anonymously: pathetic<BR><BR>Knowing the difference: priceless.<BR><BR>It takes all kinds to make a world.<BR><BR>And a forum.<BR>

If all those readers sent me $1.00 (or the equivalent thereof) every time they logged on, I'd be rich!

Roz Jun 14th, 2002 03:20 PM

Don't quit your day job Kelsey.

Huh? Jun 14th, 2002 03:29 PM

Paraphrasing a Master Card commercial in a way that makes no sense: pointless.

Wow! Jun 14th, 2002 04:01 PM

That might be the funniest answer yet to a question. Rex (I mean Rainman), God bless you for your sincerity.

i think you meant censors Jun 14th, 2002 04:16 PM

sensors????

Lewis Jun 14th, 2002 04:18 PM

Capo by himself hits this site about 1000 times per day. Considering he writes the longest and most boring posts of anyone on this board, I figure we have about 250,000 words a day from his overused keyboard.

BobNav Jun 14th, 2002 06:15 PM

Rex, you scare the hell out of me. For a MD, you need to get out in the sun a little more. Open the window and let in the fresh air. Go for a walk, anything but more of your usual B S.

hilarious Jun 14th, 2002 09:41 PM

You people are whacked out. I can't believe you took the time to figure all that out, Rex.

Tom Jun 15th, 2002 12:12 PM

This whole idea was worn out at least once before.<BR><BR>"Guess how many messages were posted on this Europe site on 5-11-00"<BR> <BR>Author: Dave ([email protected])<BR>Date: 05/12/2000, 01:48 am<BR>Message: 441 separate messages. <BR><BR>and a whole lot of speculating about how much traffic on this site, two years ago.<BR>
