I am and American living in Italy, and like to help out on the site when I can. How many of you are doing the same thing? Expats only thanks.

From another lucky American living in Italy...since 1965. Thanks to modern technology I can work from home - check my site and books , especially for independent travelers, university or cultural groups. www.elegantetruria.com
Click on the Madonna photo (my daughter) to see more photos of our local Christmas nativity pageant..
Mary jane

I've been living in Paris since 1988. I miss the USA and the lower tax rates but this is my home now. Try to get to Italy whenever I can!

I am a US citizen who has been living in Zurich for the past year, after 10 years in Hong Kong and Singapore. Interesting adjustment, as you can imagine! I read this site to learn about traveling in Europe, and read the Asia site to answer questions there. I hope to give back to one as much as I am taking from the other...

I'm an expat - but I live in Shanghai (so I do most of my helpful posting on the Asia board). Have also lived in Paris and Geneva.

I absolutely, positively LOVE being an expat. Not only is it extremely rewarding (getting to live in different parts of the world to experience life there) and exciting and challenging, but it also allows us the opportunity to travel much more than we would otherwise.

I have lived in Poland and Slovakia since 1995. I now reside in Lodz, Polska. A really comfortable city for American Expats. Hypermarkets abound. The Opera and Ballet are first rate. Current films are playing in new multi-screen palaces.

I have lived in Germany for the last 5 years and have absolutely no plans to return to the mediocrity of American society, chain restaurants and strip malls. I don't miss anything about the states and just renewed my work permit for 2 more years. Life is great in europe and I can't imagine living anywhere else except maybe the Netherlands.....

I'm definitely an expat... American, but have lived in several countries in Europe since 1964 (before that I lived in Brasil for six years).

I spend most of my time here in Provence - I live near St. Remy - but also have an apartment in Brussels. I enjoy answering questions and helping people with their travel plans.

I have been living in Ireland permanently for the past 7 years. I one of those people with foreign parents in the U.S. and have been back and forth visiting Ireland and living in the US over the years. I am one of the lucky ones to have an EU and a US passport due to my parents birthplace being. I really love it and would reccommend it to everyone to try a year in a different country. It totally changes you perspective and makes you see life from a different point of view. I have not been bored yet!

I want to thank you all for your replies! It's always nice to hear that I'm not alone on my daily adventures of an American abroad. I've been in Milan for 7 years now, and very happy. The experience is amazing, and I have traveled much more than I ever would have at home. I worked in the Carribean the year before moving here, and loved that too. 8 Years on, and go home often to visit California so I never really miss it.
Cheers to you all, and keep the peace.
Melissa
