How many days will you spend in Helsinki ?

Hello All,

My family (2 adults and 2 kids) will have a visit to Northern Europe in the coming summer. Helsinki will be on my schedule.

Can you share your experience to me on Helsinki?

I think I will spend 3 nights there.

Do you think it is enough or not ?

Hope to hear your suggestions.

Thanks

Gavin

It depends on your interests, but in general, I'd say that 3 nights is about right for Helsinki. Enjoy!

Hi!

I think that three nights would be a good amount of time to spend in Helsinki. You could also do a half-day trip to Porvoo :)

Some other places that may interest you:
Heureka sience museum/experience in Vantaa
Korkeasaari Zoo (accessible by boat - makes a nice minicruise)
Linnanmäki amusement park (free entry to park area)
Suomenlinna Fortress - good place for children to run around and explore. The museum has an interesting video about the history of the fortress (sound comes from headphones with a choice of languages).

Another place that you might be interested in is the Seurassari open air museum. I spent several days in Helsinki this summer and 3 nights is a good amount of time. If you cluck on my name you can find my trip report of our time in Helsinki.

It depends on how much time you have to visit other destinations on your trip, what your family's interests are, and the ages of your children.

The unique places to see in Helsinki include the fortress and churches. Most everyone enjoys the small open air harbor market and the trams. These take 1-2 days to visit.

Porvoo is day trip that can include a boat ride. A small area of wooden buildings with shops to see there. Although I enjoyed my trip there, it seemed a lot of effort for a small destination.

The Seurassari open air museum is good. I think the one in Stockholm is better and the one in Oslo is worse (personal opinion, of course), but I would only visit one of the three.

Zoo, amusement park, museums are good, but not distinctive. Depending on ages of children, these can be good to offset sightseeing, but I wouldn't add days in Helsinki just to visit them.

If your children are young, then staying several nights at each destination is a good idea. Too much moving around can really tire them out.
