how many days in Venice?
I am planning a trip in July and need to decide how many days to spend in Venice - 3 or 4. I'd just like to get to know my way around and see the major sights. I'll head on to Florence next. Do you recommend the extra day in Venice or Florence?

Palatino82, Hands down we would say Venice. It's easy to get around Venice both day and night. It is a city like no other-4 is better than 3. Have a wonderful trip! Shirley

It depends on what you want to see and the pace you prefer! If your goal in Venice is just to get a feel for it and to see the major sights, 3 days would probably be enough. Enjoy!

Uh oh, you've asked the never-ending question: Should I stay in Venice or Florence? This subject seems to polarize Italy-lovers!
My own limited experience was three nights in Venice was fine for my first visit there. Do you have three nights in Florence? I prefer a minimum of three nights' stay anyplace. :)>- |
Hi P,
I like both Venice and Florence. If I had to choose, I would add the day to Venice. ((I)) |
thanks for the advice. I'm thinking 4 whole days Venice (5 nights) then early train to Florence for 3 nights and then three nights at an agriturismo before the last two days in Rome. I am in Rome every year, so I don't mind cutting that part short.

I'd swap Venice and Florence and spend the more time in Florence. Bear in mind that the Florence includes Pisa and Sienna to take in

It's a toss-up-they're both wonderful-flip a coin.

My choice is Venice, however.... If you are thinking of taking an early trip to Florence from Venice, you might think about storing your bags in Florence (if you can) and continuing on to Siena for a day trip (you will have to change trains). Pick up your bags on the return and check into your hotel. Siena is a great day-tripping visit and this would make things easier, hopefully, for you and your time in Florence. |
