How many days for Rome?
If I wanted to see everything in Rome, not spending much time in musuems, how many days would it take? I'm being serious as I am planning my vacation time.

You can "skim" the top 20 in three very full days (four nights). You'll be a bit breathless, but you'll have done it. Sort of like 18 countries in 16 days. Obviously you can see fewer sights in that time and get to sip an extra capuccino or two.

I'd try to budget five full days at the least.

But many, many spend two weeks and more in Rome and hardly get around to doing and seeing everything they want to.

You'll find a plan for surveying the top 20 sights at www.twenj.com/romesights.htm

Ed is correct,
(and he really does know what he is talking about, I found his site interesting and informative)
About days in rome;
We spent 10 days out of our 18 days in italy , in rome.
And I easily could have spent more.
Rome is like an onion, in that you can keep peeling off layers, and still find more to see and enjoy.
when are you planning to go?
we enjoyed being there in the warm weather, because one can spend so much time, just sitting and watching!
also, one can take daytrips from Rome via the trains, and fit in places such as Pisa (we did with our children)
sorry, enthusing (is that a word?) on about rome.
It is a very enjoyable city.

I would allow at least 5 days for Rome. Its a huge city and has lots to see and do. You will need at least that many to go to a few good restaurants! I spent 5 days in Rome and saw all of the sight but nat many museums. Sight included, churches, The Vatican, Spanish Steps, Colleseum, etc....

I have a bunch of info on my websight, check it out--

http://home.earthlink.net/~richardab/

I visited Rome for the first time this past May for 8 days ( I was in Budapest for 4 days before and after) Rome is a busy, bustling city. In retrospect - I would probably only have spent 4 days max there and then moved on to the countryside. There is so much to see - like Paris, London and NYC - that you'll never "cram it all in" with one visit. The great thing about major cities of the world is that one can briefly visit numerous times and always find someting new.

We spent 7 days in Rome on our last trip and didn't have time to see all we wanted to see. Another 7 says would not have been enough. But, now we still have lots of new things to see on our next trip.
