How many days & hotel in Valencia?

Can anyone suggest how many days is enough to see the city of Valencia? I'm not a big museum-goer, but I love to wander the streets, admiring architecture and getting a real feel of the city and its people. I've already been to Madrid, Seville, Ronda, Granada & Barcellona, so I'd like some compare/contract, please. Finally, can anyone suggest a reasonably priced hotel close to everything in the city center? Many, many thanks!

it is hard for me to say "how many days" you need to spend here in valencia, but at least two nights, and if you stay more there are lots of side trips to enjoy and use up your time.

exativa.. mountain town with castle ruins, boutique hotel and great restaurant at foot of castle, easily accessible by train from VLC: 5 euros rt).taxi up to castle (approx.6 euros)

right now if you go to the malvarrosa/port restaurant area, you will probably see the america's cup boats practicing out on the waters in the distance. quite fun over a beer or coffee.

if you want to be right in port area, with beach access, and rooftop jacuzzi, try the hotel neptuno.
upscale newly remodelled place ready for the america's cup group.
many are staying there now on and off.
probably 100 euros/night or so.

so,- a morning at the beach if weather is nice.
-a half day walking around the old section ( one of the largest in europe).
- a visit to central market.
-visit la lonja ( across from market)

-take bus 95 around the river bed that is full of buildings and the new science center.

otehr hotels: Don't know your price-range.
the melia plaza is right in city hall square.
the hotel astoria very good also.
the hotel melia inglés
hotel vincci lys
hotel venecia .. mid range price.
to name a few.

check out www.bancotel.com for availabilty for your dates and i will try to tell you which if those is best value for money.

you may coincide with some concerts or recitals in some of the churches.
three cinemas have films in original version should it rain and you get bored.
also a casino with buffet dinner.

you could also take the metro line out to GODELLA, just to get a feel of the outskirts of the city and the residential areas, and have a coffee/sandwich at one of the sidewalk cafés at the train station.(not to be confused with the station BEFORE that called godella/burjassot!).

hope you decide to come!

Be sure to see the Ceramics Museum in Manises and have a paella at Pepica's at the beach.

la pepica has become a total rip off IMHO.
sometmes the paella is better at a bar with a menu of the day.

we stopped taking people there.

topping this cos it has lots of info of interest to me - but wonder if there is more to be had.

Budget hotel recommendations - I'm after a cheap and cheerful pension - well located and under euro50 for a single if possible.

Any opera or dance performances in first 2 weeks of Sept? I have trawled the web and found Theatro Principal but no info for so far in advance. Any good websites I could check closer to the time? My trip is flexible and would hate to miss something by arriving a day too late.

This will be my first trip back to Valencia since I lived there as a child in the '50s. Does a district called 'Campo Olivar' mean anything to anyone. Where would I find it now?

Many thanks.

There is a clean simple hotel called HOTEL VALENCIA that has singles for 38 euros with breakfast.

near city hall.

campo olivar is lovely residential area near godella.
take the bus from godella station area.
i live on other side of hill in rocafort.

now there are many town houses in place of some of the lovely previous mansions. you probably wont recognize it.

not sure about updated websites.
