How long to get through security at CDG?
 

I plan to arrive at Charles de Gaulle airport by TGV train (Terminal 2) and connect to a flight to Santiago de Compostela (Terminal 3). My connection time will be 1 hour and 20 minutes. Is that enough time to get through security?

You're assuming your train will arrive at CDG on time, which it might. Are you allowing time to reach Terminal 3 from the TGV station, maybe about 15 minutes? How much time have you allowed for processing at the check in desk and to make your way to the departure gate?

There is no way to know how long security will take but Terminal 3 might be easier than either of the other terminals.

You might make this connection, but I would have a very firm backup plan.

Too close for my comfort in ANY destination/departure, let alone an international one.

Go to your airline's website and consult their advice on how early to check in for an international check-in. If you're flying coach, I'd guess two hours at a minimum, maybe even three hours.

Make different plans, clear and simple.

I'm assuming given the destination and the terminal it is Vueling. Vueling has a 40 minute check-in cutoff for flights. You are basically counting on everything going right and the TGV arriving on time at that point. Is it possible and maybe even probable? Sure.


Are you willing to risk it though? I probably wouldn't. Even if you are able to check-in online in advance, you are still cutting it close and not accounting for anything going wrong with the train. Either make plans to get into Paris earlier or get a later flight.

Security at CDG sucks. Allow more time, not less.

You go through the final security check at the gate, not inside the terminal. It can take time depending on how many people and the number of flights. It can be a pain.

If you are flying Vueling from CDG to Santiago, it took forever to get through security. And if it is Vueling I hope CDG improved the signs as to where check in and then board the plane.

Is that 1:20 the time from when your tain is supposed to ariive at Terminal 2 and when your plane is scheduled to take off? If yes, you're actually looking at 1:05 at best since planes normally close boarding 15 min or more before take-off.

That is cutting it way too close. Assuming your train is on time, you still need to get off the train, get to Terminal 3, check-in for your flight & check any baggage, get through security, and get to your gate. Even on a perfect day, you are pushing your luck.

If you don't need to check-in or check any luggage and the security line is short, you might be in good shape.

I would never risk that at CDG.

I wouldn't risk it, either. Time in security lines can vary, obviously, depending on time of day and who just happens to be there (meaning how many other people and whether they are causing problems). CDG is the only airport where I"ve had to go through 2 security lines, outside and then at the gate.
