As far as Bolgona is concerned, we always stay at the Hotel Carlton and continue to have a wonderful time. The large desk, the marble bathrooms, etc and a relaxing bar area off the lobby make the stay delightful.

The hotel is also right off the main street and a couple of blocks from Independzia (sp) so it is terrific for walking.

If you're going to the Emilia-Romagna
area, get a copy of Fred Plotkins Italy for the Gourmet Traveler. The food here is unbelievable. Reserve for a meal at Hosteria Giusti in Modena months in advance and have your hotel confirm your reservations. We spent a week between Parma, Modena and Bologna this fall and can't wait to return. So much more plesant and less crowded than Florence. Had the unexpected pleasure
of a private box 30 feet from stage at Bocelli's performance in honor of Verdi
at Verdi's theater. There were lots
of unexpected treasures to find in this region, we look forward to returning soon,
Newt
