How long in Berlin?

We are planning a visit to Berlin in October or November. How long should we spend there? Should we plan to go to Dresden and/or Leipzig? Any other suggestions in the area? What are the highlights in Berlin? What area would you chose to stay in?
Thanks.

I loved Berlin. Lots of interesting new architecture. I was there 4 days and still missed a few things. I also would reccomend Weimar - so much in such a small place!

I love Berlin and Desden is worth the trip (only 2 hours south). You can spend a week or 3-4 days and find something to do. Highlights for me are Checkpoint Charlie Museum, Reichstag, Unter der Linden, KaDeWe Department Store, Kurfurstendammstrasse, Info Box (next to remaining wall), symphony, museums, Templehof Airfield (not much there but if you are a history buff--Berlin airlift), Olympic Stadium, Potsdam, etc.

I was in Berlin on Oct.19-20 last year and the weather was nice. It was cool in the morning and you need a jacket, but it was sunny and Berliners were still having lunch and coffee outside at sidewalk cafes.

I thought it was a great city with lots to do. If the weather is poor, there's many museums to visit. I saw the Pergamon museum and the excellent Egyptian museum. I was with a group, but spent most of the day sightseeing on my own. Public transport was convenient and easy. We stayed in Mitte near Checkpoint Charlie and the remaining wall. There was a metro stop next to the hotel so it was no problem getting around. Be sure to walk down the Kudamm and pop into the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church. There are some beautiful mosaics left in this bombed out church.
Lunch is no problem in Berlin. Any bakery/cafe has cheap, fresh sandwiches, wraps, subs, etc.

Our tour stopped in Leipzig for a couple of hours. It was nice, but there didn't seem to be much to do. Saw where Bach is buried in the church. Obviously, I didn't have time to investigate much. Most people go to Potsdam from Berlin. You can take the train and it's not far. I haven't been there myself though.

I would definitely like to visit Berlin again.
