How long does it take to receive a receipt for the Scavi tour after sending payment?

I e-mailed my credit card number (very reluctantly) to the Scavi office this past Sat. to pay for my tour next month. I received an automatic reply to confirm receipt of the e-mail, but I haven't received confirmation of payment yet. How long does that usually take? Thanks in advance!

Has your credit card been charged yet? I don't think you'll get a receipt until that happens.

ParadiseLost Feb 9th, 2006 11:38 AM

I emailed my CC info for payment on Friday Jan 27 (9pm Rome time).
I got the automatic email response ~1min later.

On Monday Jan 30 I received the actual receipt of payment.
My visit is on Apr 28.

I just checked my credit card statement online, and the card was charged on 2/9, but I still haven't received a confirmation for the tour yet. Is this typical?

Here we go again.I requested a tour way back early January for mid-May. Received the automatic reply almost immediately but have yet to hear back with confirmation. The rest of our plans are on hold until we know IF we'll be going. Should I be starting to worry about this? Sheryl,Walter how long did you wait for confirmation?

ParadiseLost Feb 20th, 2006 08:19 AM

minx: For me it was 11 days from my request (1st contact) to my final confirmation receipt.

I don't recall where or from whom but I once read a post and the poster stated that they start booking the tours 90days or 3 months out.
And this has been my experience in 2 bookings, the 1st time it only took 5 days when I emailed on the 90th day and this time basically the same thing for an Apr 28 tour.

So hopefully you might hear from them soon. Regards, Walter

I gave them my charge card info on 1/26/06 & then received my confirmation on 2/2/06.

Dbacks: Just curious, what's the date of your tour?
Regards, Walter

I'm thinking I'm breaking 'rules' by going off on this thread with my own agenda. If so, please excuse. I returned to my original Vatican reply from Jan 2 Walter, and after studying it once again am thinking I've been waiting for naught. Do all the automatic responses state that "unfortunately,we cannot accomodate all of these requests" Blah, blah, blah. Later it says that "requests are also being processed and we will communicate the schedules of the visitre as soon as possible when the visit is possible. If you didn't receive a communication,we are sorry to not be able to fulfil the desire to visit the excavations. If due to a cancellation,it is possible to accomodate you,it will be our pleasure to inform you of your reservation as soon as possible" Then of course I was asked not to reapply. What do you think? Should I be facing the reality of NO tour?
Thanks.

Hello,
I have recently gone through the same process of e-mailing credit info. for a tour next month, and I got my confirmation information back in about 4-5 days. I haven't checked yet to see if my card was charged. The slowest part of the project was the initial inquiry & awaiting word as to whether there would be a tour available. I gave three possible days as options, however. Good luck.

ParadiseLost Feb 20th, 2006 01:19 PM

minx; I doubt that they would be booked-up 4.5 months in advance for a mid-May tour?

I gave them 6 dates in a 12 day period (Apr 28-May 9) and they gave me my 1st date (Apr28) @ 0915 which is the 1st time slot.

How many dates did you give them? Regards, Walter

Getting back to my original question, it seems that everyone tends to receive their confirmation within a week of payment, but that hasn't happened with me. I assume that my husband and I have places on the tour since the card was charged, but I would still like confirmation. I don't mind waiting another week or so, but any suggestions on how to follow-up?

(By the way, Minx, I e-mailed my request on 1/6 and received a reply on 1/24 for a tour date of 3/31.)

WillTravel Feb 20th, 2006 01:50 PM

Sheryl, are you positive that your email provider did not mark the receipt email as spam?

Have you booked a Rome hotel? Maybe they'd be willing to phone for you and find out.

Sheryl Feb 20th, 2006 01:55 PM

Yes, I checked it the other night, and the spam folder is emptied for a month by default.

Would I be able to call myself or does the office only speak Italian?

Sheryl Feb 20th, 2006 01:56 PM

Oops, I meant, "NOT emptied for a month by default."

WillTravel Feb 20th, 2006 02:00 PM

You could try, but my recollection from other posts is that the office doesn't speak English very well.

Ann41 Feb 20th, 2006 02:03 PM

MAKE SURE you get your confirmation. I booked a tour fairly late (about 2 weeks before the tour), and my confirmation wasn't e-mailed to me until the morning of the tour. Which meant I didn't actually get the confirmation before the tour, and was given verbal directions on getting to the tour starting point. Consquently, we got lost and never made it to the tour.

Sheryl Feb 20th, 2006 02:14 PM

The tour date/time confirmation mentions that the tour begins/ends at the Excavations Office and has directions. I will attempt to send an e-mail about the confirmation of payment, but I expect that I won't get a response, so I will also take WillTravel's suggestion and ask our hotel to call. Thanks!

I also emailed my itinerary to the Scavi Office and receieved the automatic reply of the office which gave me no idea if there will be an opening or not, and I might not get contacted again. Since I am going to be in Rome soon and don't want to miss the tour, should I email them again, even though they said don't....? Someone said it doesn't hurt to contact them again.

dorkforcemom Feb 20th, 2006 03:14 PM

Let me apologize, Sheryl, for interrupting your question. I, too, emailed the beginning of February for tours May 1 or 2. I received the automatic reply saying wait, we get lots of requests, etc. I only gave 2 days (one of which I have now figured out is a major holiday) that we'll be in Rome. I digress - what does the email look like (with regard to who it's from & the Message title) when you are accepted for a tour so I'll be on the lookout. I receive about 300 trash emails a day - probably like everybody else - and now I'm wondering if I've deleted it as trash...thanks!
