How Long Does it take to get to FCO

We have a 10:50 am UA flt to the USA. We will be leaving from piazza navona on a Thursday. What time do you think we should leave our apt?

JNE Oct 21st, 2014 07:56 AM

Hi,

We had a 9:50 flight and left 3 hours before. It was about a 35 min ride to the airport for us at that time. We were leaving from the Spanish Steps area.

On another note: I see you have answered post for El Calafate! We are traveling to BA in May 2015 and I wanted to see if I could message you a couple of questions? Thanks

yestravel Oct 21st, 2014 07:59 AM

Thanks! Yes, loved el calafate .
Fodors does not have a PM function. If you use Trip Advisor, I am Dl and you can PM me thru TA.

How are you getting there?

yestravel Oct 21st, 2014 08:01 AM

Oops, left out that detail...car service or taxi

nytraveler Oct 21st, 2014 08:48 AM

7 am should give you plenty of time,

bvlenci Oct 21st, 2014 10:54 AM

I would allow more time than that. The trip to the airport at that time in the morning would take about 45 minutes, more if there's heavy traffic, as there could well be at rush hour on a weekday.

You need at a minimum 3 hours at the airport. Since the last terrorism alert, there are new security measures, and people have been reporting on TA that they almost missed their flights when allowing three hours. So, I would want to be at the airport at 7:30, which would mean leaving at around 6:30 to be safe. If all goes like butter, you can spend some time in the shops at the airport!

Thanks all! We got picked up at 6:45 by car service (€45) from piazza navona. No traffic leaving the city. Arrived at FCO at 7:10. Checked in, thru security and customs and bused from terminal 5 to g bldg. all this comPleted by 8 am. Not sure what "new" security measures there were. Seemed just like any other security check at all airports in Europe. Overall pretty quick and easy.

You did well, it was like herding cats when we left FCO earlier this year. Hopeless to the extent that we vowed never to leave italy from Rome again!

Naples was the worst I ever saw...complete bedlam.

annhig Oct 23rd, 2014 03:14 PM

lol, yestravel, we travelled through Naples in February and it was a breeze apart from the idiots who tried to get a huge suitcase on as hand luggage.

I think that the rule "you never can tell" now applies to air travel, probably more than it ever did before.

Hi, For some reason I can not find you on TA. I am suztex there if you know how to find me?? Thanks

I got there three hours early not knowing what it would be like but it was very quick and efficient. Great shops and duty free there so spent time drooling in the Prada and Ducati stores. You never know and they do say three hours fro international.
