How long can you leave items in the lockers at train stations in Paris?
 

Is there a time limit for how long I could leave something in a locker at Paris Nord statio?

For our three-week trip in Sept./Oct. we're flying in and out of Paris but will be taking the train into/out of Italy for 11 days in the meantime. Would it be possible for us to leave some of our stuff (i.e. souveneirs accumulated up to that point) in a storage locker for those 11 days? Is this wise? How safe are the storage lockers?

I would advise you to leave things in the left luggage storeroom provided there is one rather than in a locker.

When we went in 2001, we stayed at the same hotel in london on the front end and back end.

We brought an extra suitcase (one of those that folds up with) with a lock and all of us stored our purchases and souveniers in that. The hotel was more than glad to store it for us, since we were returning to that hotel.

I do not know if you are doing the same, but if so, you may want to email them. most hotels have a secure room to store stuff for patrons.

We did that with our baby car seat (which we used on the plane), but left it at the airport. It's really easy to just pack those souvenirs up at the local post office and send them home. They have boxes, tape, and everything you need. When we go to Paris, we always do that.

Ooops, one more thing. Sending the stuff home ends up costing a lot less than storing it in a locker!

Intrepid, I didn't realize the lockers and the left luggage area were two different things. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure if there is one, but I'll check.

Surfergirl, I'm leaning towards just shipping the stuff home, myself. But my travel partner (aka "mom") thought storing it would be cheaper. I'll mention to her that it might not be.

erin b. Unfortunately, we're not staying in the same hotel both times in Paris. That would be so perfect!

There are only lockers at Gare du Nord, not a left luggage room, and you can leave stuff up to 48 hours for sure, maybe 72 hours, after which the locker is emptied. Last time i checked i think it was 48 hours, but at the Gare de l'Est nearby it was 72 hours in their lockers. Most stations in France have closed all left luggage facilities in accordance with the 'vigipirate' anti-terrorism measure, in effect now for several years, that has also seen the removal of trash cans from train stations. The lockers in Gare du Nord have metal detectors and thus are allowed to be open, and were in January, 2003 when i was last there. Fee is about $5/day though there are different sized lockers at varying costs.

There are no lockers at CDG any more.
